Finland, the number one country in health care and primary education, has for decades been at the forefront in improving the health and well-being of its citizens. This has also resulted in many world class companies in the health care sector that have also found their way to Nigeria with a positive impact. The Embassy of Finland and the Finland Trade Center decided to share and discuss areas of cooperation by organizing Finland Takes Care – Well-being & Health event at the cool and classy Wheatbaker hotel in Ikoyi on Tuesday, 3rd of November 2015.
The packed event was hosted by the media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and the guests included health professionals, business men & women, government officials and other dignitaries. The event started officially with welcome words by Her Excellency, Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury, the Ambassador of Finland to Nigeria and followed by a short presentation by the Finland’s Trade Commissioner to Nigeria, Olu Raheem on “Why to do business with Finland”.
Short presentation was also heard from the Executive Director of Nigerian Heart Foundation and Finland’s Honorary Consul in Nigeria Dr. Kingsley Akinroye. The main speaker for the event was Dr. Pekka Jousilahti who is a research professor in the National Institute for Health & Welfare in Finland. His topic was on the prevention and control of non-communicable disease. After which the event shifted to a very lively panel discussion on “How to Improve Quality of Life“. The official part of the event was closed by a fashion show presented by a Finnish fashion designer Marita Huurinainen.
Short remarks were also given during the event by Former Minister and Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari and the Permanent Secretary, Office of Overseas Affairs & Investment Lagos State, Arinola Odulana representing His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State.
