Damini Ogulu, stage name Burna Boy, paid tribute to his famous grandfather, Benson Idonije, at the Lagos Jazz Festival which ended last weekend.

The ace broadcaster, regarded as Nigeria’s most revered music critic and first manager to legendary musician, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has been credited many times by Burna as the man who influenced his music the most.

On Saturday night, Burna Boy took to the stage to give a moving speech about his grandfather, extolling his virtues while emphasising the great man’s influence in his life. He looked delighted to be given the opportunity to honour his grandfather, and he went on to perform a few songs for him.

Burna Boy has been working non-stop since the release of his sophomore album #OAS (On A Spaceship) last November, releasing videos and gaining acclaim in different African cities. Earlier in the year, he won the One Africa Award and two more at the Metro FM Awards in South Africa.
