Johnny Gill was a member of the New Edition in 1987 after the departure of original member Bobby Brown, then later also formed the trio LSG with singers Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat in 1997 before forming a new group called Heads of State with fellow New Edition members Bobby Brown and Ralph Tresvant in 2008.
