As one of the world’s top shopping capitals, London is the destination for finding exclusive festive gifts for those special to you. A season of goodwill, whether it is for corporate gifts, friends or family members you can avoid the massive crowd and travel costs by shopping online using your Nigerian cards and it is delivered to your home.
Luckily for us, Westgate London has the inside track from an army of gifts and fashion bloggers for the best stores and off-the-beaten-path boutiques for festive retail therapy.
Christmas shopping in London is both a pleasure and a pain. There are so many stores but also so many people. Options are endless, though that means making decisions is impossible. And whilst Oxford Street has the biggest shops, it also has the busiest crowds and the longest queues. With the help of some seasoned city shoppers, we’ve compiled an off-the-beaten-path shopping guide to ease your Christmas gifting duties. All of these items can be found and purchased at Westgate London.
Avoid the queues at Harrods, Selfridges and John Lewis on Oxford Street, and duck onto New Bond Street to Mulberry, Aspinal and Smythson. I’m an obsessive hoarder of small luxury leather goods and don’t think you can ever go wrong with a lovely wallet, diary or passport holder. I like to get the recipient’s initials monogrammed too, for that extra personal touch. Conveniently, they are all available at Westgate London, which saves you from flogging around the whole of the city’ — Yemi Akinwunmi
‘I always visit the V&A gift shop for quirky and unusual gift ideas, and over the holiday period it’s at its absolute best. They always have a wonderful selection of stocking fillers — both for adults and little ones — as well as beautifully designed Christmas cards, exquisite coffee table books, and eye-catching costume jewellery. I could easily spend hours in there!’ — Ella Macbeth
‘Clapton Craft is a cheerful and ever so slightly hip craft beer shop tucked away in the up and coming neighbourhood of (surprise!) Clapton in Hackney. The team here stock over 300 international bottles and even have beer on tap, allowing you to fill your own 1-litre bottles — which make great gifts. They’re perfect for keeping thirsty Christmas party guests at bay. I’ve also just opened their second shop in Kentish Town, which also sells wine and has whisky on tap. Dangerous.’ — Louis Farrukh
‘For Christmas shopping (or any gift buying for that matter, be it for myself or someone else), I always turn to Couverture & The Garbstore on Kensington Park Road in Notting Hill. They carry clothing from a lot of independent American and Scandinavian designers (Clare V, Rachel Comey) as well as some British favourites such as YMC and Colenimo. There is also a great selection of homewares including stationary from Hay and a lot of interesting little trinkets. The basement is dedicated to menswear and accessories and you are also bound to find some cool bits and bobs in there for men, from bandana print envelopes to Swiss army knives and notebooks.’ — Laetitia Jackson,
‘Goodhood is the perfect store to shop for loved ones who have a fascination and share and interest in modern design products and brands — they stock Norse Projects, Comme des Garcons and Klippan. It also doubles up as the best place to buy myself a gift at the same time — it’s hard to leave empty handed.’ — Matthew Perth,
‘I always head to Graham and Green when I have my Santa hat on. A veritable Aladdin’s cave, the stylish boutique specialises in characterful, yet contemporary, furniture and home accessories which appeal to my own eclectic style and wanderlust.’ — Megan Eastwood,
‘I love Present in Shoreditch. It’s a well-curated shop that stocks everything the modern man would love. From independent fashion labels and home accessories to books and stationery, you’re sure to find a Christmas gift for the men in your life that they’ll treasure for a long time.’ — Michelle Bobb Parris,
‘Aimé on Redchurch Street in Shoreditch is the place to get your hands on hard-to-find French labels such as Isabel Marant Etoile and Repetto. I also love Artwords Bookshop near Old Street, which is like going down a rabbit hole of book, magazine and card buying — perfect for those Christmas reads and cards that have a little more originality’ — Emma Hoareau,
‘I love Bobo Kids. It is the sweetest children’s toy and interiors design shop — that said, I always find something for myself too (I can’t resist the fur-covered cushions!). Birgit Israel is also perfect for the person who has everything, with the most beautiful home accessories.’ — Marissa Hermer
