Uzo Aduba to play Toni Stone in Eponymous off-Broadway Play about First Woman to Pro in Negro Leagues
Uzo Aduba has landed the title role in an off-Broadway play “Toni Stone.”
The play is focused on the true life story of Toni Stone, a baseball player who in 1945 became the first woman to go pro in the Negro Leagues.
Stone, of course, experienced discrimination from her male teammates while playing.
The play, based on Martha Ackmann‘s book, “Curveball, The Remarkable Story of Toni Stone,” is to be directed by Tony winning director Pam MacKinnon.
The “Orange is the New Black” star made her Broadway debut in 2007, starring in “Coram Boy.”
