Did Former Lagos Gov. Fashola Really Spend N78.3 Million on His Personal Website?

Fashola in Blue

This is the question many are asking, as the topic has been trending on several online news sites, and on social media for the past few hours.

Premium Times reports that former Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, approved  the sum of N78.3 million (approximately $400,000) from the state’s treasury for the upgrade of his personal website.

The report further states that the news was revealed on the state public procurement office’s website, and was first exposed by noted budget analytic firm, BudgiT. The contract for the upgrade of the website was reportedly awarded in 2014.

According to Sahara Reporters,  the contract was awarded to a company named Info Access Plus Limited, and “a Google search by TheNEWS did not turn anything out about the company.”

Here is a screenshot from the site, as posted by SR:

The Premium Times report also states:

According to information technology experts, www.tundefashola.com, created by the firm for the former governor, is a WordPress website and an upgrade could not have cost more than N300, 000.

Other questionable expenditures incurred by the administration include N1.2 billion vaguely spent on the “construction of pedestrian bridges along Oti-Osa Lekki-Epe Expressway”. The spending did not specify the number of bridges.

In the same year, the government also awarded contract for the provision of wall signage in three magistrate courts at the cost of N17 million.

The Fashola administration further spent N3.46 billion for the construction of a beach resort in Ilase and N61 million for a Range Rover SUV and 2 Toyota Hilux trucks as the official vehicle of the Chief Judge of the State.

The document shows that the administration also spent N85 million for the repair and replacement of street signs.

Other curious expenses contained in the document include N330 million spent for the development of the residence of Mr. Fashola’s deputy, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, and N94 million spent on “printer consumables”.

Why didn’t this come out before the elections nah! It’ll have made things more interesting! Chai!
But fashola, If this is true… mehn! you fall my hand! Like gaaan! And you just ruined your chances of becoming president IMO. This scandal won’t just go away like that. You better release a statement to either clear your name or give us a reasonable explanation as to why $400,000 was spent on a WordPress website. It is beyond ridiculous!

RBF is no saint. He might have done some side ‘runs’ while in office but at least he gave Lagos a face lift unlike his predecessor. That said, I’m not condoning evil. I think the allegations should be properly investigated and if found guilty, he should face the consequences as nobody is above the law (I’m sure he’s aware of that being a learned fellow). Change has come to stay! Hahahahha

I am not surprised. Fashion has been over celebrated for building bridges, planting flowers and putting up the Christmas light amongst other things. All these are the normal duties of a governor who promised to be diligent once he resumes office. However, the little crumbs given to us Lagosians by Fashola have made him become the best thing that happened to us since sliced bread. Why? Because impunity is the norm of the day and just by putting up the Christmas light lagos is working, Fashola is working.

Let’s see what Ambode is up to… Shall we!

He is corrupt, remember all the accolades & praises we were showering on him still he suffers two times impeachment threats…….. We were never told what it was he was nt doing aright…… Tinubu governed the state 8yrs wt only 2yrs budget approved while 6yrs was neva granted…… It was released to Fashola (6yrs) budget by Yar’adua….. Over 3trillion. This is nt the type of cash yu can deep hand in wtout transparency group….. Lagos state generates 6.8million daily by the time the budget was released…….The state had enough for works (Fashola is working trend) and he decides to keep Tinubu in the dark the rest of the house that prompted reasons of impeachment…..How could lagos state be having any debt on his hand-over…..He built Lagos as a make -belief as his concentration was creating another country inside island along with Tinubu…Buhari must step on toes to prove himself of transparency……We are yet to hear more about lagos…

The over N600million the state was generating daily remains on accounted for as the eyes were on how the trillions were going…. What he forgot was that Tinubu governed with revenues generated from the state….. Tinubu had over 100BRT buses on the way before his hand-over, all are proceeds from internally generated revenue & he was questioned on the same proceeds that precipitated to the threat of impeachment..CORRECTION*…..NOT 6.8MILLION RATHER OVER N680million..

@FasholasLover, Your comment made me laugh. Fashola too is a change agent OOOO. The “bestest” of the agents oooo. No wonder the Dullard is unable to appoint ministers. The change agents are not saints after all. While Lagosians worked and paid all manner of ambiguous taxes, Fashola was busy pocketing ill gotten wealth. I said it a long time ago that Fashola is over hyped. With the volume of IGR from Lagos, that city is crap.

Nigerians thrive on mediocrity. Otherwise, what did Fashola really do in Lagos? Turn by turn we shall see the unmasking of all thieves.

Meanwhile, you can take it to the bank. Tinubu is deeply unhappy with Fashola. Fash wants to break free and be his own man. He is a joker cos he already soiled his hands. He had the opportunity to break free a long time ago but, he was too greedy.

Fashola has always been good at overhyping his achievements in the media. You’ve got to hand to him though, he really worked the media-both traditional and non traditional-to his advantage and succeeded in pulling a lot of wool over people’s eyes. I hope he gets probed and brought to the book. Justice must be served to all not just a select few.

  24. Tunmi

    August 8, 2015 at 9:56 pm

OMGosh!!!!! It makes sense now. Someone (reputable source) told me Buhari’s visit was to vet potential ministers. He took a list of those in his parties and those outside his party. And even Fashola’s hands were not clean. I was surprised to hear it since I hadn’t heard any corruption scandals. But wow…..oh dear.

Quite unfortunate. There are no more mentors in Nigeria, no leaders to look up to like the Awolowos, the Azikiwes, the Tafabalewas. All we see are wolfs in sheep clothing called “Leaders”.

“Printer consumables” consume 100million: my people, can’t you observe that the printer worked for the “Wor(l)d-Press” website? This is Nigeria! Remember the timeless father’s admonition to his son “never to trust anyone, including (Fashola)”.

I’m shocked that people are so quick to judge the man! Why did all this not come out while he was in power after all there has never been restrictions on media. N78m for his personal website Haba it that possible. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. His detractors are working overnight to see he does not get any appointment in this government. He will be vindicated. Let the investigations begin. I still have tremendous respect for uncle Fash. Carry go

When you look at the sources of Lagos State Govt revenue and the projects undertaken under Fashola, you do not need a prophet to tell you that his hands are not clean. The whole of Yaba is submerged in water, Borno Way, Onike Iwaya, Herbert Macaulay, Yaba Tech, Military Hospital Road, everywhere.

The truth is they’re out to blackmail this guy and to stop him from being the attorney general cos his godfathers know that they might end up in jail, if Fashola becomes AGF. I stl respect and trust this guy and i know that all of these is to rubbish him, but the Fash i know will clear his name.
