Press Release: Nigeria Mourns the Dead – Benue State in Mind

Published

Leaders of Today Empowerment Initiative will like to offer our deepest and sincere condolence to the Benue State Government and families who lost their loved ones in the recent violent clash involving herdsmen invading communities in Benue State which claimed lots of  lives and the destruction of  properties and farmlands.

Two Local Government Areas which include Guma and Logo have been gravely affected by this massacre. Villages and farmlands were destroyed in the process. Mind blowing statistics by the Benue State Emergency Management Agency shows that over 40,000 persons are internally displaced in Benue State with feeding posing as a major challenge.

As the Food basket of the Nation, this crisis has largely affected farmers and to say the least, their farmlands. Farming is one of the main stay of Benue state indigenes which has before now reduced the unemployment ratio for the state and meaningfully engaged the people to be productive which in turn has been able to boost the economy of the sate and the Nation at large.

Today, we mourn those who have been gruesomely murdered in this crisis which has lingered for too long in Benue State amongst other states in Nigeria leaving women, children and the aged as the most affected.

Leaders of Today Empowerment Initiative is using this medium to call on all concerned both at home and in the Diaspora to emulate the good works the initiative is embarking upon as we paid a visit last year to support the flood victims and planning another for the first quarter of the year to support the herdsmen/farmer victims in the state.

Leaders of Today

As concerned citizens, we call upon The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, The Nigerian Senate, The Governors Forum, The Military and Paramilitary, Civil Society Organizations, Religious Leaders, Traditional Leaders and all other stakeholders to rise up to the challenged posed by insecurity in Benue, Southern Kaduna and other parts of the country currently experiencing similar challenges.

Furthermore, we will also commend the roles all have played thus far in ensuring security of lives and properties for all Nigerians with the hope that lasting solution is proffered to ensure lasting peace is restored.
