St. George’s University to investigate Sexual Harrasment allegations against Former OAU Lecturer

St. George's University pledges to look into Sexual Harrasment charges against Former OAU Lecturer

Earlier this week, a former staff of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) was accused of sexual misconduct by a Facebook user, Funke Dezarn in the wake of Oprah Winfrey‘s explosive speech at the Golden Globe Awards.

The lecturer in question Francis Fakoya has since left the university and now works at St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies. After St. George’s University got wind of the issue, it released a statement via its Facebook page, promising to look into the issue and take appropriate action.

The statement read:

St. George’s University (SGU) has been made aware of allegations against a member of its faculty, while previously employed by a university in Nigeria. At SGU, we take all allegations of sexual misconduct very seriously.

In light of these allegations, a thorough investigation into this matter has been initiated and appropriate action will be taken.

I love what I’m reading. My stand is, he might not be convicted of rape or any sexual wrong but the awareness is nothing to take lightly. It makes a lot of difference. Women, say the name. Don’t give your perpetrator more power.

Guess I should also call out my lecturer who abused us as freshers in university. He forced a kiss on you and squeezed your just blooming boobs and/or ass before telling you your score in his course.

This is major especially in Nigeria.

As a woman thank God I’ve never suffered sexual assault/rape but I know people who have or almost did. So disgusting and violating.

It is high time these monsters are exposed, brought to booked and shamed. Let it start costing them their jobs, marriages and lifestyles.

Some people never get over the pain and scars. So painful. I can’t stand people who shamelessly take advantage of vulnerable people. Like Oprah said, their time is up.

There should be a movement so that more women are encouraged to speak up.
