Africa’s premier online gallery Artyrama is hosting a solo exhibition for Multidisciplinary artist John Madu titled Identity Tones.  The exhibition began with a one-hour fireside chat with the artist on Friday 17th August and will end on Friday 24th August at the Artyrama Popup Gallery – 1b Alhaji Masha, Off Ademola Street, off Awolowo Road Ikoyi, Lagos. The exhibition is free to attend.

Date: Friday, August 17th- Friday, August 24th, 2018
Venue: Artyrama Popup Gallery – 1b Alhaji Masha, Off Ademola Street, off Awolowo Road Ikoyi, Lagos.

The highly anticipated exhibition features original works from Madu. With exclusive original paintings, in ‘Identity Tones’, Madu contemplates the effect of globalization on African identity using collages, portraiture, figurative symbolism and mixed media to bring it to life. The eclectic mix of the source material is influenced by pop culture, African art history, music and lived experiences.

Madu is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work is represented through personal iconographic symbols such as metaphors, texture, indigenous patterns and colours. The philosophy behind his works rests on the premise that true art is based on a chain reaction to socio-economic issues or his immediate environment.

The exhibition is supported by Bombay Sapphire.
