After 3 months of rigorous judging and voting, The Future Awards has finally released its final list five days to the 2011 edition of the awards!

The judging process has gone through a Board of Judges, public voting, an Independent Audit Committee, and back to the Board of Judges – accompanied by the exciting three-month activation of its #IamNigeria campaign.

The campaign has seen the Official Launch of its sixth season in October (which commemorated Nigeria’s 50th independence anniversary by presenting 50 young Nigerians as the Face of the Future), the October/November Town Hall Meetings across the nation and in South Africa and the United Kingdom, the Nominees Reception for Charity in December, and the Get Your Green On! style campaign.

The finalists are mostly three per category and the winner will be unveiled at The Future Awards 2011, which holds on Sunday, January 30 2011 at the Landmark Village, Victoria Island, Lagos. It’s a strictly by invitation event for 1000 exclusive guests, and the Keynote Speaker is Minister for Finance and former Managing Director of Goldman Sachs, Olusegun Aganga.

The event is supported by Access Bank, HiTV, Virgin Atlantic, and the Miccom Golf Resorts. Official Media Partners are Y! (www.ynaija.com), Wazobia FM and Cool FM.

Ermmm….I don’t mean to be a hater but as a scientist, I was really interested in knowing what kind of research work the nominees in the science category have done in the past. I was actually astonished that the Owoeye guy was nominated for just recording the types of injuries sustained at a sports festival. Maybe the organizers couldn’t see between the “big” words – epidemiology and surveys, patterns. But this guy’s work is like high school science and has only been cited by 1 other article, which is really pathetic. Please, there are people doing way better science than what this guy has done, I won’t even get a B if I wrote this kind of paper for a class. I am really disappointed.

nene god bless you. i so agree. the science category this year is rather lame. you are right about the owoeye guy thats not science in my own books. and for the rest, what they do is not directly relevant to Nigeria as a third world country. i would like to see how the other two contestants would apply all of that to naija…all physics and enginering when we no even get 24 hour electricity.

After the girl that one last year (ify aniebo), i doubt they have been able to find someone that amazing. what she does is so inspiring and directly related to nigeria. future awards una mess up this time around o. a lot of the categories are funny man. how can vonne be there when there are so many designers eg toju foyeh and even april by kunbi self. i am not looking forward to this year at all. i was especially looking forward to the science category..una no try at all.

what’s the use of all the publicity and regional meetings if they’re only end up picking the lagosians. We have to realise that there are people in other parts of nigeria and they too should be encouraged.

As in, regarding the area of science, are these people trying to say that as a country we don’t know what it means to be OUTSTANDING in the area of science. Please there are so many NIGERIAN young scientists doing outstanding work all over the globe which relates to issues affecting Nigerians (especially in Cambridge and Oxford). Go check them out. If you also need help, check out Pubmed, and see how many citation, or even self, publication some of these shortlist have added. These are no scientist. Please I expect better next time. I guess, I’ll have to wait till 2012. Oh well……

hmm… @Best Use of Science & commentators, fink these guys aint bad. Final 3 out of several is definitely no child’s play. I particularly researched details about the Owoeye guy… three journal publications within a year is sure no joke (…well, talking from experience) eapecially on the subject matter; which he claims there is a dearth of info in Nig. Debo too is pretty cool for his age… fink it is btw these 2 guys. All the best to all nommees!

  32. ugo
