Ariyike Akinbobola

Award Winning Media Personality Ariyike Akinbobola‘s August edition of the “Best of Both Worlds” networking event took place at Troy Lounge, Victoria Island, Lagos. It was a night of fun.

This month’s edition was different from the previous editions because she invited celeb judges to talk to the participants and encourage them after their performances.

The Judges include media personality Shine of Cool FM and D.J Big N of Diamond Records.

Media personalities like Toke Makinwa, Latasha Ngwube, Bimbz Therapy, Ogechukwu Osili, Modupe Ahmed and Selecta Agbaje as well as  fashion designer Sean Manuel, comedians, young professionals, entrepreneurs, and a lot of upcoming artists were at the event.

Ariyike reminded all of the essence of BOBW which is a platform for upcoming talent and it’s also an opportunity for her to help one charitable organisation/ agents of change every month. This month, she’s creating awareness for Posh 9ja Youth initiative which will give Nigerian youths the opportunity to learn a trade at no cost. The event started off with a dance performance by a dance group called Charachoros, they are University of Lagos students then comedy by SLK and Oliver.

Since part of the aim of BOBW is to create a platform for upcoming artists and fashion designers to showcase their talent, the artists that performed include Young Page, Multeen, Cryptic Kidz, ENT family, Rasheed CMC, Seun Sticks, Jay Glow, 8-One and Elawtics. CMC Artist, Tony Torch and Cameroonian female artist Museba were also there to support the event.

The fashion exhibition was by Omolegho Ehimaka of 5 Fingers couture and Taibat Bello of classietabbie’s creations where they showcased unique Ankara accessories, diaries, iPad covers, shoes and bags all made by the use of our African fabrics.

Channels TV was there to cover the event and Ariyike granted them an exclusive interview where she spoke extensively about the vision behind BOBW where she expressed that BOBW is not a celebrity event, it’s an event for upcoming talent. It is her own way of giving back to the society because most people don’t care about upcoming talent.

The event was hosted by Ariyike Akinbobola and MC Prince.

lmaooooo. rag day event. LOL. rule of thumb for wearing boots – if all else around you are wearing sandals, flats etc, then it is probably not a good idea to wear KNEE length boots. LOL. ahh money miss road! That said, I dont understand the spirit of the event really.. like to what purpose? for who? which business sector? what constructive thing have they done their besides listen to their ngbeke music and heard jokes? no im not bashing, but I wish the pictures came with a more descriptive explanation. all i see now is tacky people at what seems to be a tacky event.

    August 18, 2013 at 12:12 pm

Please, who is funding this thing that ariyike keeps doing? Why is she trying so hard to be relevant in and industry she knows nothing about? How can toke makinwa be the most recognisable celeb at your event? Seriously, toke is the only “star” here? Ariyike just needs to stop. And the lady in red? Good heavens, such a pretty face with absolutely zero hips, and yes, when you wear leggings exposing your crotch area, then expect to be told you are completely shapeless. The knee high boots, no words, just don’t remove your shoes near anyone because people will die. Even ariyike herself, is she wearing boxer shorts?

    Absolute nonsense

Ariyike, perhaps you need to research well before hosting events, that way you would get the RIGHT people to attend. Then and only then can it be considered NETWORKING!!! Cant knock your hustle sha it cant be easy…hopefully it will be better next time.

  28. Cool Tiger

    August 19, 2013 at 2:03 pm

@ Cool cat maybe you need to find out what bobw is about before coming here to run your mouth. I’ve nvever missed anyedition and I know what I’ve gained. The girl in the boots is shine from Cool fm. I’m an upcoming artist and I know how ariyike has supported my career. Because of bobw, I’ve now started performing at other gigs unlike before when nobody wanted to give me a chance. Ariyike has encouraged a lot of us. Other promoters will tell us to come and pay them so we can perform at events, you obviously don’t know what we ve been going through before we started attending bobw. Only upcoming artists like me will understand.

    August 19, 2013 at 2:11 pm

All the people here passing comments have never done anything for anyone before o. Even your so called celebs are not helping anyone. Here’s someone who has decided to invest her time and contacts in helping upcoming talent and you people are her dragging down the event. God help us in this country.

  30. Fashionista

    August 19, 2013 at 2:21 pm

Bellanaija why didn’t you tag the pictures? That’s Miami based fashion designer Sean Manuel of BDSM sitting down wearing a suit and that’s also celebrity stylist Rhoda of Vane’s style after Sean’s picture. Nice one

  31. Bisi

    August 19, 2013 at 2:32 pm

I don’t blame celebs for not taking pictures when they go out because of negative comments. It’s almost as if nobody ever has anything nice to say anymore. Well done Ariyike.

Ariyike, keep doing what you do to promote lives and talent. Its not always about the shine or glitz. Well done ore!

  33. London girl

    August 19, 2013 at 2:59 pm

@Cool cat… who says Ariyike is trying to be relevant in the entertainment industry? She is already relevant and she is a big deal in the industry. She was the one that hosted the Lagos countdown concert on the. 1st of january with I.K of big brother. I watched her on Afmag and Tvc cos the event was broadcast live and I heard she was the one that recommended most of the artists that performed. Learn to do your research before you come here to chat jibberish! Just last month, I watched her on the Pauline Long show in London where she was invited as a panelist to talk about what upcoming artists go through. People’s parents were even calling in to

I agree that the people looked razz but i was at the event and there were a lot of well dressed people. You guys need to understand that not everyone likes taking pictures. Arike is a very hard working person, so it is unfair to actually come here and post vile comments.

It is her own way of giving back to the society because most people don’t care about upcoming talent.”

Nah wah for una o! Did some of you really read the write up? This lady clearly states that her event is for up and coming talents. We must we only want to celebrate those that have already made it?! So what if the pictures are not all ‘glossy’, these people are there to show case their talent and Arike has given them a platform for them to be celebrated. Nuff said!

  46. Ok o

    August 20, 2013 at 6:38 pm

Lol…I love the boots but not for summer…people are looking at a lot of pictures in style magazines these days that they have no time to read about the styles and appropriate place s and events to wear them to.. Nigerians truly from homospecial spp,no more Homo sapiens

but why this ariyike dress sense is a NO NO

  48. no to cyberbullying

    August 22, 2013 at 12:03 am

I really do not understand the obsession with celebs….i for one have been to all the editions of bobw and its been wonderful and interesting. Upcoming talents from previous editions some have been signed and have videos showing at various music stations. Ariyike is a hardworking woman doing her thing if you do not have anything constructive to say you do NOT have to leave vile comments.the people at the events are human beings you do not have to be a “celeb” to classify an event. Ariyike continue to do your thing we are proud of you. I cnt wait for the next edition of BOBW.

  50. Omoge

    October 22, 2013 at 3:16 pm

The concept for this event is amazing and a job well done……as for the dressing for people at the event it was just razz……the most important thing anyway is that the aim was achieved
