The most coveted award - Most Gifted Video Of The Year went to South African star Zakes Bantwini for his video “Wasting My Time“.
As we expected, our Nigerian stars Darey, Naeto C, Ice Prince (feat. BrymO), D’banj and Banky W won various major awards at the event.
The big question of the night was “Where is D’banj?“, the star had been hyped as the night’s major attraction as he was the recipient of the 2011 Channel O Music Awards Special Recognition Award.
D’banj reportedly missed the show due to a dispute/oversight/miscommunication over his flight ticket class (BN has reached out to both parties for a statement).
The show which was hosted by Banky W and Dineo went well with strong performances by Uganda’s Keko and Navio, Zambia’s C.R.I.$.I.$, Nigeria’s Ice Prince and Flavour, Kenya’s STL and Angola’s Cabo Snoop. That said, D’banj’s absence definitely created a void.

Word on the street is that D’banj was fully prepared to travel and actually got to the airport only to discover Channel O had purchased an economy ticket for him!! Well, sorry but the Koko master/Mr Endowed doesnt do economy! So he turned right round and went home! But seriously Channel O no try o! Would they have purchased economy tickets for Kanye West, Jay Z or even ex-con 50 cents? its how you price yourself that others will buy you! The young man knows his worth… and he feels he is worth flying first class or business. Its a matter of principle! Cabo Snoop could win best male but D’banj did it because the Awards focus more on Nigeria and South afrika. We all know Cabo Snoop windeck was a hit but well I guess is how it goes in Afrika eh.
