The multi-talented Aramide – singer, songwriter and instrumentalist spoke to NotJustOkTV about her life as a musician. She won her first award at The Headies and recently had a collaboration – Love Me with Adekunle Gold.

Her Definition of ‘Afrosoul’
It’s the fusion of African music, language, sound with soul music.
Challenges of Being an Afrosoul Artiste
She says the fact it’s not a popular genre of music. “You have to work 10 times harder than others. It’s not like the fast music we listen to. We have to prove to people every time. We didn’t really used to get airplay. But now a lot of people have started standing their grounds and a lot of people are now giving it a chance.”
The Instruments She Can Play
Saxophone – because she’s a huge fan of John Coltrane and jazz. The guitar was the second instrument she learned.
The Music Process
She does her finger exercises in the morning, and the melody dictates the song. Sometimes songs take days, weeks, or even months.
How Baseline Music Record Deal Happened
She ran into an old friend at the cinema – she said she should send her music over, she did and the rest is history.
Aramide the Artiste and Aramide the Wife
She’s been married for a year and three weeks now. She says she has a very understanding and supportive partner. He understands when she has to stay out late. Balancing both keeps her on her toes.
