From finding the hottest spots to accessing civic services and much more, city life in Nigeria just got a digital upgrade. MyCityApp Nigeria has officially launched nationwide, now live across 36 states, bringing transport updates, government services, local discovery, and emergency access into one seamless, easy-to-use platform designed for how Nigerians actually move, work, and explore everyday life.

The high-level unveiling brought together senior government officials, policymakers, security leaders, technology executives, and creative industry stakeholders, reflecting the broad cross-sector collaboration behind the initiative.

Built in collaboration with government stakeholders and MTN Nigeria, the app brings together city services into one streamlined experience. Users can access government service information, local business listings, emergency contacts, and job listings all within a single interface.

Speaking at the event, the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hon. Hannatu Musa Musawa, described MyCityApp as more than a mobile application, calling it a bold national vision where technology supports tourism, simplifies public services, and strengthens safer, smarter cities. She described the platform as a “smart urban companion” that provides users with reliable information, enhancing both confidence and safety as they navigate Nigerian cities.

“When people arrive in any city, the first thing they reach for is their phone,” she said. “MyCityApp turns that device into a gateway for discovering businesses, festivals, restaurants, transport options, and essential services.”

Highlighting Nigeria’s global cultural influence, she emphasized that the country’s strongest brand lies in its music, fashion, art, festivals, and diverse heritage. She noted that the ministry was created to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on oil and unlock the economic power of culture and creativity, adding that,

“global tourism has changed rapidly in recent years. Today, travellers rely on their phones for navigation, safety, and real-time updates.”

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, represented by the General Manager, Regional Operations, North West (Sales & Distribution), ThankGod Otorkpa, described MyCityApp as a transformative infrastructure designed to improve quality of life by reducing travel time and emissions, strengthening citizen engagement, and simplifying access to essential services.

“With MyCityApp, we are moving beyond connectivity into an era where technology drives access, efficiency, and opportunity,” he said, adding that MTN will provide secure, enterprise-grade infrastructure capable of supporting millions of users as the rollout progresses.

Head of Marketing, MyCityApp Nigeria, Adedotun Oyinloye, highlighted key features of the platform. Residents in cities across Nigeria’s 36 states, including the FCT, can now access real-time city intelligence and public transport updates, make government service payments, discover local businesses and entertainment options, and connect directly to emergency services.

The platform also provides comprehensive directories of government offices and embassies, alongside dedicated sections for housing and job listings to support economic participation nationwide. Structured civic engagement features further enable residents to report issues and provide feedback directly to relevant authorities, fostering transparency and participatory governance.

The rollout marks a significant milestone in expanding smart city infrastructure beyond a single state into a broader national ecosystem of digital urban services.
