One of the most fabulous events on the scene this year took place on the 5th of November 2011 as one of Africa’s leading luxury retailers Temple Muse launched its new flagship store in Lagos, Nigeria.

Temple Muse has propelled the luxury retail sector in Nigeria to new heights with this new space. The official press release describes the store and the level of service to expect as well – “The new Temple Muse store will possess an effortless art deco elegance to it with a gallery-like open feel.

Exquisite, seductive fragrances, ambient beats and a palatial backdrop will set the mood to a space boasting a range of exclusive product, concierge desk and Moet & Chandon champagne bar – make sure to try the signature Temple Muse Bellini! When people walk through the doors of Temple Muse they will escape from the hustle bustle of city life into an oasis of opulence & tranquillity. They can expect to be met with impeccable customer service and indulge in a unique & fulfilling shopping experience in a relaxed ambience.

Exclusive pieces from African design brands including Tiffany Amber, Maatano, Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi and Odio Mimonet are all showcased under one roof.

Temple Muse also offers a number of in-store services that include Wedding List Gift Registry, Corporate Gifts, Hamper Service and Flower Store. A select mix of products by global brands including Lalique, Christofle, Bernardaud, Moet-Hennessy, Missoni, Hermes, Givenchy, YSL, Amrapali, Lara Bohinc and Dunhill are also available in store and by order.

All the Lagos socialistas and fashion insiders came out to celebrate this fab fete! The event was also the official Lagos launch and book signing for ARISE Magazine Editor Helen Jennings’ new book “New African Fashion”.

One of the questions we get asked most often on BN is “Where can we buy” so it is great to see that the retail sector especially for Nigerian designers is growing!

How large is this store, cos my friend lives on this same street and said she has never seen it. I described it to her as it being as large as Nordstorm and she burst out laughing saying “Nordstrom my – i live on the same street and pass by everyday to work and never seen that store. Must be tiny huh?

      • rew November 18, 2011 at 3:03 AM

        your point is?

      • Jasmine November 18, 2011 at 6:15 AM

hahhahah. you iz a fool for that sacrasm. it’s not even close to nordstrom’s bathroom size cos it’s a store opened for like 6-10 girls who can “truly” afford the high street end of summer sale/nordstrom rack items they ship to naija to re-sell. i said 6-10 girls cos majority of the big girls travel overseas all the time and buy from US/Dubai/UK. i went to their Sanusi Fafunwa store when i was in Nigeria and it;s as big as combining a bedroom and palour into a boutique. tiny and sparsely stocked with 95,000 Naira ankara dresses and 85,000 Naira panda earrings and some other items begging to be marked down so they can find a new home cos they are just tired from dangling off the same hangers overpriced. Trust me, besides all these chicas just attending these events to show off their lastest McQueen sandals, ish aint a lot of them shopping at these stores. oh and why did i see $120 Kenneth Jay Lane earrings at this store for like $450? hahahhah i almost died of laughter and pitied whoever didn’t know this is over prices garbage from Nordstrom Rack and Neiman Last Call

        • chidi November 18, 2011 at 10:15 AM

          You sound very bitter, why????

        • A Girl November 20, 2011 at 5:39 PM

@ Chidi: Jasmine may not be bitter; she is just speaking the truth as she sees it and hey she does make some good points (if they are true, lol). People do buy designer stuff from those stores or outlet malls and mark them up like crazy here.

    • Mademoiselle November 18, 2011 at 1:04 AM

      Ewo! See class!!

When I grow up I wanna be just like Mrs Elohor Aiesen!

Hmmmmm…..even me I really wonder who shops at these Stores? I believe the people who can afford these stuff actually travel to London, Paris, Dubai, America, and would obviously do their shopping there. So who then buys these things???!!!

    • sakara November 18, 2011 at 2:51 PM

to see a store as big as Nord n Lagos, ur papa must own that property o…t aint easy man…and wt all this effizy hope they make d money they invested n 10yrs…..biz n naija aint easy to survive i beg and all ‘rishiii’ people they catch plane go hop every day

    • A TM Friend November 18, 2011 at 3:00 PM

Just to put it in perspective – the red carpet event was both the launch of the new store and also Helen Jenning’s book, so not exactly a red carpet for shopping (and certainly not pretentious nor foolish). Temple Muse is a beautiful boutique doing a great deal for African fashion. Not only do they have great lines by all the favourites but they also have affordable gifts and home items. The store does stock fabulous items and the layout and finish is world class but its not snobby, everyone is welcome there and treated like family.

    • Telu November 18, 2011 at 3:20 PM

So i guess they use Generator abi, since besides all this shenanigans red carpet nonsense, the nation still dont have 24 hour light even in 2012. Na wa oh. Everybody is a celebrity in their own minds in this nation, all this show boating for what? Mtchewwwwww

      • A TM Friend November 18, 2011 at 7:37 PM

I think you should get over yourself Love. Promoting Nigerian fashion and running a commercial business is not a crime against humanity.

      • claudia November 19, 2011 at 1:04 PM

@Telu, your one of the problems we have in nigeria….let me ask, is temple muse responsible for power supply in nigeria? if your asked to lay this complains in Aso rock….you wld go for a contract instead.

    • Ice November 18, 2011 at 3:47 PM

    • Salama November 18, 2011 at 6:13 PM

LMAO @Turn turn turner! I feel you jo. Na so-so “fear and trembling” I go de use approach dis store…

    • kemkem November 18, 2011 at 7:20 PM

100% agree with you!! I say that all the time, most of items theses so called boutiques carry are either 3 to 4 seasons old or things that are currently at outlets, they never sell any high-fashion items that are in season. #pure-ripoffs

    • Sett November 18, 2011 at 8:01 PM

@ chidi…i suspect you are one of the folks in the photos or affiliated with the overpriced lagos boutique clan. I kinda of agree with Jasmine’s point.

    • Ex-Blogger November 18, 2011 at 10:28 PM

Lol @ the comments! I just love these snotty events. But seriously what were u guys expecting? Spring 2012 collection at Bergdorf Goodman??
I’ll give it to the organizers though, they pulled off a flawless event….i guess ‘cuz its a much older crowd and some of the folks who attended are “old money” , there was less “fronting” going on.
And those of u going on about the problems in Nigeria…na today??? abegiii!

    • Latifah November 18, 2011 at 11:17 PM

Not a place for me cos my salary would only ger 11/2 things @ TM. I’ll visit to window shop & admire the decor, shikena!!

    • Joy November 19, 2011 at 8:48 PM

After reading some comments here i feel like most of us don’t understand anything here. First off, Nigeria is moving forward, and with constructive criticism we will be able to get to these people. Second, just because you are wearing a chanel or gucci bag or armani does not mean that you are better, do not let things like this shake you, if you are a stylish person to be honest you do not need all these things, not saying you will not buy it, but there is a difference between need and want. Style is the only thing, and i do not think it is the money that make these women look nice, it is their style, and they also look decent, if you have good style and you have a decent mind set, then you will obviously not be looked down on. Stop praising these women because they are wearing chanel, wear your own affordable clothes, and go to the store, besides it is a store open to the public, so walk in there, you don’t have to impress anyone, your there to look at the garments that is all. And there is one ogbobo head there that is saying why is there red carpet, there is red carpet because it is the opening of the store! if you want people to get to know about your store, then you do stuff like this, and invite celebs and well known people and role models, and advertise them on blogs like this. So please you guys should stop being so backwards and stop letting people intimidate you. I wear forever 21 from head to toe and i still get treated like a human being when i go for events! Just be you and thank God that your country is moving forward, and that person complaining about the price, when you you start your own business, you will not make profit abi?? no problem, nigerians obviously know that they will increase the prices! so if it is oo expensive for them they will not buy it, so shut up! my goodness, some people are just :/ that is all

    • mma November 20, 2011 at 6:13 PM

i concure with Jasmine Nija designers are over priced which is understanble but they need to come up with creative ways to go high street main street blah blah. recently versace designed a very avoidable and lovely line H/M stores and I said to my self smart move the market is like a a pyramid you there are more people at the middle and lower end than at the top and the competitition is steep at the top. why not look for a way to get to the majority instead of looking for the tiny at the top .that lesson they should lear China and the Asian countries are some where to start looking for good quality mass production and beside our fabrics are unic to us so it might be more difficult to fake ankara print than your regular egyptian cotton

    • cool cat November 21, 2011 at 2:37 AM

It takes me approximately 3 months to save for 1 bag, another 3 to gather ticket and courage to go buy it, only for it to be out of stock. I don’t mind buying past seasons in naija but price must be reasonable sha. Better still, go on the day madam is around and make sure to open your bag enough that she sees your cash. Trust me you will get at “your” price. Works all d time(hehehehe)

    • June bug November 21, 2011 at 12:11 PM

I’m so proud of Maki Oh. I think Temple Muse is doing a lot for Nigerian designers. I will have to give it to them for that. With regard to pricing, I guess they are targeting the luxe market. We don’t all have to shop at Gucci if we know our pockets are more H&M. I’m sure if no one was prepared to buy their wears, they would be out of business.

    • redfunnylips November 21, 2011 at 6:37 PM

Tiwa Savage and these shoes AGAIN!!! Its becoming more like Efe Tommy and his hermes/LV belts

      • Ms. Jayee November 22, 2011 at 10:59 AM

        HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

    • Sandy November 26, 2011 at 3:59 AM

I quite agree with a lot of you on the overpriced items. I’ve been to 9ja several times and visited so called boutiques but then I get the question “who are you wearing?”. I’m like #duh, thought you people shop from the States as well but apparently not where I shop for my clothes.

    • true_talk November 29, 2011 at 7:49 PM

Na wa oh…question is where do these people get the money from? i think i counted like 4 chanel bags…yeah, these people look good and all, but na wetin we do chop be that?
