Republican candidate Donald Trump was rushed off stage by security officers during a US election campaign address in Reno, Nevada.

The Republican nominee shielded his eyes and looked into the crowd and was then suddenly removed from view by two agents as a disturbance unfolded near the stage.

According to The Guardian, several witnesses said they heard shouts of “he’s got a gun”. The incident prompted the crowd to react in panic, with several hundred people surging towards the back of the hall in Reno.

The man who caused a commotion at a Donald Trump rally Saturday said he’s a registered Republican who wanted only to show his displeasure with his party’s nominee.

The man however had no weapon. Secret Service agents later released a statement to that effect and let him go without charges.
