When I started reading “Unbroken; Channelling the Power of the Mind”, it seemed to me like it contained all the things I had read before. For example; Don’t allow past failures to determine your future,  guard your thoughts against fear,  watch the company you keep etc.

It was actually wanting to look like another long read, but as I read this book, I literally inhaled life lessons like never before. It brings together a myriad of issues that we ordinarily overlook.

For example, its common for colleagues to discuss amongst themselves about everything that is wrong on the job. I usually I’m the type who doesn’t like contributing in those kinds of conversations because it ends up affecting the quality of my work, as I find I suddenly wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about those negative things that were pointed out during the discussion.

After a while, when those discussions come up, I just tell them lets think of all the advantages of working with the company, like health care, airtime, etc.

But while reading this book, I realized that it’s not enough to change the topic from negative to positive, ‘I have to actually change my mindset first, so as to change my life.’ This way, even if I hear these not-so-pleasant things, I can still consciously choose what I want to think, not what someone’s grumblings make me think.

It’s really very easy to relate to what the author has written about achieving one’s dreams in this book. There are no bogus theories, no difficult tasks either. John Onche is more or less telling us that it’s within our power to reach for more, channel our mind for greatness and be all that God has destined us to be.

This book contains fresh perspectives regarding issues that limit us as individuals in our businesses,  careers, personal lives, and relationships. Every chapter had something profound to say and I easily put together valid points that jumped at me, which I have also begun to inculcate. Some of them include,

-It’s OK not to be perfect…

-Own your failure.

-Whatever you love or expose yourself to, will eventually drive your sponsoring thoughts.

-Pure energy flow, found in true love, cannot be destroyed or manipulated.

-You must learn to improve your life and turn your wishes and dreams into reality with the power of creative visualization.

If a lot of our celebrities or leaders decided to be perfect first before making moves to be what/who they are today, there’s 100% chance, they still would have been nobody.

This book makes you think critically about your life, helps you decide where you actually want to be and gives you a step by step guide on how to get there. It’s all about the power of the mind.

I have a friend who always says her father, when advising them about accomplishing their dreams would say, “you don’t need money to start. What you need first is the will, the determination and the mindset to kick off and be successful.”

I don’t want to insert all the good things in the book here, so you can get yours. You will definitely be in for a very good read that’s worth your while.
