Former Spotify exec Tuma Basa joins YouTube as head of Urban Music

Former global programming head of hip-hop at Spotify, Tuma Basa has been unveiled as the new head of Urban Music at YouTube.

Tuma Basa made a name for himself at Spotify by curating the famous RapCaviar playlist, a genre-specific playlist that has amassed about 9 million followers.

YouTube’s global head of music said in a statement;

Tuma brings a deep knowledge of the Music Industry with many years of experience at BET, MTV, REVOLT and most recently, Spotify. His experience will be invaluable to the music journey we are on at YouTube, connecting artists and fans across the globe, and I am thrilled to welcome his voice to our collective efforts.

The formal announcement is coming barely a week after the launch of YouTube’s music streaming service. Congratulations Tuma Basa.
