Ade Bakare Introduces New Bridal Line & Couture Perfume “Breeze”

Posted on Thursday, October 7th, 2010 at 10:24 AM

By Terence Sambo

Ade Bakare started his bridal line in 1998 having studied fashion design in Manchester and came 2nd in the British National Student Competition in England in 1990.  He has designed wedding dresses for brides both in England and Nigeria.

He recetly introduced his couture perfume “Breeze” which has been a success with brides and also  introduced a moderately priced line (Pieces range  from 80,000 Naira to 150,000 Naira) of bridal gowns and brides’ maid’s dresses (Prices range from 10,000 Naira to 25, 000 Naira) under the Bakare Breeze to cater for the design conscious bride.

The collection consists of “A” line, ball gown and fitted dresses, ideal for the intending bride that would make an entrance at church or a grand occasion. Fabrics such as duchess satin, lace, tulle and organza are used in the collection. The dresses come with exquisite details such as side gathers with lace motifs, transparent lace bodies and bias cut bands. Included in the range are also a variety of boleros for brides who want something demure to a dramatic piece with crystals. All dresses are cut to flatter the body and some are available with boning which slims the figure to a flattering shape.’- Ade Bakare

Lovely.I especially love the first one and hair pieces.great job.

    • Hilda October 7, 2010 at 11:25 AM

Is it me or almost all the dresses with a few exceptions are ill-fitting on the models. Great to have a cheaper line but let them look like they were made by the same Ade Bakare na…
Apart from the 1st 2 dresses, everything else not fantastic.

      • Debo October 7, 2010 at 10:32 PM

thot so too…. not spectacular except some of them… the bridesmaids dresses look like dey were sewed by some road side chic….

      • dami October 7, 2010 at 11:27 PM

u read my mind i was thinking of that it would have looked more better when it fits the models… that where the beauty comes out..

      • Lola October 8, 2010 at 4:42 AM

Seriously!! The designs might be nice, but who can tell? Really unprofessional to have such a bad fit! No one can see the appeal sef.

      • chi October 8, 2010 at 11:56 AM

Absolutely Hilda! I acnt be caught in these! and who said they are cheaper, you cant compare these to 150 dollar dresses in David’s Bridal. Meanwhile, news for all Brides to be, Vera Wang is launching a new line of low cost wedding dresses at David’s Bridal. How clever!

        • ladi October 8, 2010 at 3:31 PM

I was thinking the same about davids bridal too!!!!

But for people with ‘first-world’ budgets N80,000 is $500 and quite “cheap”

bride dress rentals nko? my mum sha borrowed her wedding dress and over 20years of bliss.

    • tama October 7, 2010 at 11:30 AM

HOW COME THE MODELS DONT HAVE BOOBS ?
nice gowns but not well carried

      • ijoyoyo October 8, 2010 at 12:54 AM

        • Nneka October 11, 2010 at 2:33 AM

      • ms floetry October 14, 2010 at 2:37 PM

well maybe because he gave their share to you..(bet you have a big bust)

    • Rosie October 7, 2010 at 11:54 AM

@Tama, I agree. Gosh! Find models with boobs, abeg! the dresses are cute but drooped on the models.

    • originalgbegborun October 7, 2010 at 12:04 PM

i love adebakare but this is not his best work! come on Ade! we’ve seen you do better

    • niyoo October 7, 2010 at 12:09 PM

the dresses r rather loose …. i’d rather go to bridal house jor!

    • Pinky October 7, 2010 at 12:18 PM

I really used to like Adebakare. He made my sisters wedding dress in 2002 and it was soooo beautiful… However these days, I must say that I’m not inspired at all… Alot of other African wedding dress designers have left him behind because he has refused to keep up with things… He wouldn’t be my choice for my wedding dress…

    • DUDU October 7, 2010 at 12:29 PM

      I love the 1st dress.

    • Ms. Jayee October 7, 2010 at 12:30 PM

hey! see my friend modeling for Ade Bakare.

    • NIRA October 7, 2010 at 12:34 PM

The dresses are really nice, but the models don’t have the body to pull them off. I bet they’ll look better on some bootylicious African woman.

    • Amour October 7, 2010 at 12:52 PM

Please Ade, i’d love nothing more than to wear your gown on my day albeit within my meager means, but these designs so disappointed me. I was salivating to see the pictures, but the gowns in the bridal shops laced around Ikeja that fall within that price range are better designed. Kindly give us better, cos we know that you are the best at what you do.

    • control October 7, 2010 at 1:08 PM

      Ade u can do better.

    • MO October 7, 2010 at 1:09 PM

nice but d models did no justice to d dress.
may b with a fuller model,i ll love dis collection d way i used to luv ur clothes.

    • Gino October 7, 2010 at 1:19 PM

I love this. girls are the best.

    • Q October 7, 2010 at 1:26 PM

At least they should have ironed/steam pressed those dresses ahn ahn!!

      • Nene October 25, 2010 at 2:21 AM

My thot exactly, they look like they were pulled out of the hamper several days after drying.

    • umukohwoarhien October 7, 2010 at 2:45 PM

I like the hair pieces, but I’d rather spend more money and buy a better dress. I can’t see anything of taste here.

    • lola October 7, 2010 at 3:08 PM

Disappointing!!! and they would have looked better ironed.

    • Jess October 7, 2010 at 3:19 PM

I reckon they are really nice dresses especially the first one but the models make them look awful.

    • Miss ATL October 7, 2010 at 3:57 PM

The dresses should have been fitted to the models. Hopefully, these aren’t the proper promo shots. If they are, they all need to be redone.

    • Musings of Ewa October 7, 2010 at 4:12 PM

the models didnt do some of these dresses justice
the last dress is cute though

    • gbeborun October 7, 2010 at 5:05 PM

Coming from Ade Bakare, this is disappointing, apart from the fact that we’ve seen all this dresses before, the whole collection and models lack the spark of Ade Bakare

    • nigerianbabe October 7, 2010 at 6:12 PM

ki ni gbogbo eleyi???? or is it dat the models didnt pull them off well???? dont even seem to know wat the problem is but ther is a prob sha. lol

    • Ms P October 7, 2010 at 6:56 PM

      these dresses are rather depressing

    • 1234 October 7, 2010 at 7:26 PM

Being this slim- and without shape- does not do these dresses justice. I just ended up focusing more on the faces, jewelry, and hair dressing after the first couple of pictures. When will designers realize that it’s okay for the model to look normal, healthy, and curvy!

    • dami October 7, 2010 at 11:30 PM

the models should have worn paddy bras to fill in the dress…. i like the 2nd and 4th dresses and also the bridesmaids dresses

    • kike October 8, 2010 at 12:57 AM

ni bo lo ti awon omo oni di gbigbe yi………….and d bridesmaid dress( the brown one lookslike “simi”

    • Gino October 8, 2010 at 2:01 AM

The girls are beutiful and so is the dress.

      http://getnigeriajobs.blogspot.com/

    • sandy October 8, 2010 at 4:12 AM

      hmmmmmm……………not fantastic

    • Kilonsparkles October 8, 2010 at 5:07 AM

Sorry o, these dresses are not cute imo. Those bridesmaid dresses are atrocious and lack any styling. I’ll like to smell to cologne though.

    • omo October 8, 2010 at 7:39 AM

      nice collections.

    • max October 8, 2010 at 8:59 AM

i dnt normally comment on stuff but i have to on this cuz it is Very dissapointing ,i must say! it just shows he has refused to keep updated with fashion trends. Some chinese stores have better wedding dresses. maybe , he is getting old. He should talk to designers like JBL. LDA or MAI on whats up these days………..

    • biola October 8, 2010 at 10:15 AM

Boring dresses! I scrolled through really fast. Wudnt buy any.

    • preceela October 8, 2010 at 11:40 AM

i would not be a bridesmaid for anyone if i had to wear any of the clothes these bridesmaid have on, come to think of it i would want to be a bride either in any of the brides’ clothing too. i heart the head pieces tho’

    • miss PomPom October 8, 2010 at 1:24 PM

Someone forgot to get the iron out! Nothing more irritating that and ill fitting un-ironed dress.
AB….dont let them mess up your reputation now!!!!

    • Temi October 9, 2010 at 3:34 PM

The most inspiring photo is that of the perfume bottles

    • moni hassan October 10, 2010 at 7:50 PM

Very depressing. None is fascinating. There re so many bridal gowns under 1000 dollars that re way prettier. And fr d bridesmaid, its xtrmely un appealing n ugly.

    • Kay.. October 11, 2010 at 12:21 PM

whattttt!!! why r d dresses not iron or properly fitting for that matter…..whooo Mr Ade is playing wit his marketioooooo…… ah! *hiss*

    • Ayodeji October 11, 2010 at 4:46 PM

I will rather shop for my dress at Davids Bridal than wear any of these gowns! Not fashion forward at all! ahn ahn, kilode? Am not impressed! Only the first dress looks passable!

    • diva whisperer October 11, 2010 at 8:29 PM

i truly expected more, much more from ade bakare. was excited whn i saw the headlines :(

    • brendz October 12, 2010 at 3:28 PM

is it me, or havent you noticed this “size zero” trend in naija, where all the women modelling are soooooo skinny, its un-nigerian! i am not saying nigeriam women are big, but we arenot skinny…we have boobs and backsides +”figure 8″ according to SSP, and i am tired of all this “noveau” designers trying to force this new look on us!, this wedding dresses are not nice, but i have never been a fan of ade bakare really!

    • alas October 13, 2010 at 11:07 AM

lets give him a little credit guys.

    • Sisi Yemmie October 14, 2010 at 12:00 AM

erm….i give him credit but do the dresses look boring and ill fitting?????

    • diva whisperer October 14, 2010 at 1:02 AM

well, noone sed twas easy livin up to a name! hop d pefume’s bettr tho

    • Gino October 15, 2010 at 10:28 AM

    • Henry Owusu October 16, 2010 at 3:18 AM

Ade is a great Nigerian designer he was born on 24th June 1966 and will be 45 next year. He graduated from Unilag in 1987 and has been a great inspiration to my five children. Well done my brother!

      • Nene October 25, 2010 at 2:22 AM

Really….really though, you just had to run us through his bio.

    • hilda October 18, 2010 at 9:25 AM

Absolutely non-creative whatsoever. Wouldn’t bother calling her to make a bridesmaid dress let alone a bridal dress.

    • caramel_drops October 20, 2010 at 2:20 AM

I don’t like any of these dresses, and the perfume looks too cheap, and why conture? wuld have choosen a more unique name.

    • Obinna October 24, 2010 at 7:09 PM

Nigerians are obviously used to overweight brides. That is why they are looking for nyash and boobs. How many models have boobs?. They are modelling wedding dresses and not boobs. Get with the program and support a brother.
I may also add that it’s time we start designing wedding dresses with African fabrics; may be all these ogbongidi chics wey dey complain of ironing and boobs will appreciate it more.

    • TEMMY October 25, 2010 at 10:50 AM

      nyc collections!!!!

    • bimpe October 25, 2010 at 3:46 PM

@ Tama, you took the words out of my mouth! why the flat chested models? he probably used the wrong model for this collection. why is the model posing with her palms xed, reminds me of my mum’s fav pose, lol!!!

    • Pinky October 28, 2010 at 12:37 PM

Looks like something put together by an overambitious Tejuosho tailor. I refuse to believe that ANY of these dresses were made by Ade Bakare. Not only are they ill fitting, they are UGLY and look very cheap. Someone needs to introduce him to the likes of Reem Acra and Elie Saab. Its obvious that this man has lost touch with the fashion industry. If Wal-Mart ever decided to start a bridal line, this is the man to call. I smh.

    • karmel October 28, 2010 at 3:08 PM

pls…no offense meant but is this some form of mockery….the wedding gowns are hanging on the models…they dont look gorgeous at all!!….would have thot that the models should look attractive in the gowns so a bride can imagine what she would look like on her wedding day!!

    • Foxtrot © November 5, 2010 at 12:30 PM

Dissapointing. Gowns arent fitted. Poor stitching.

Lanre Da Silva-Ajayi and Mai Atafo make much better wedding dresses.

      xoxo

    • Meeee December 1, 2010 at 7:31 PM

Not impressed. The dresses were not even ironed. Rubbish!!!!

    • Mimsy February 3, 2011 at 8:17 PM

The only thing I like from this collection is the netted headpiece.

Like someone commented, the pieces are looking boring, ill-fitting might I even add.

If the designer is tryning to go for a vintage look, that’s great, but the thing that has to be done is make the clothes fit WELL, or even get a model that will fit the clothes.

I don’t want to bash the designer, just give useful criticism.

    • Mimsy February 3, 2011 at 8:19 PM

And may I add, the pale gold bridesmaid dress [spaghetti strap, A skirt] is a bit out of fashion… The designer cld have brought it up to date with thicker straps and a more fitted skirt.

    • meee March 24, 2011 at 11:04 PM

is it me or does anyone think that the model is not doing these dressess any good, most of the dresses are classic and i would personally wear them but if i see it on the model, i’ll def not buy any at all………..

    • younglady August 15, 2011 at 3:16 PM

I definately believe he can do better if only he works on all criticisms.
