Genevieve Nnaji, Majid Michel, Yvonne Nelson, OC Ukeje, Emem Isong & “I’ll Take My Chances” Make the Nominees List of the Inaugural Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards – Find Out Who is Also on It

On Saturday 20th October 2012, the inaugural edition of the Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards (GIAMA) will take place in grand style at the HBU, Morris Cultural Arts Center, Dunham Theater, 7502 Fondren Road Houston, Texas 77074-3298, USA.

As we all wait to see what our favorite movie stars will be spotted in, check out the recently released nominees list. Some of the movies nominated for the biggest award category – Best Motion Picture, include Mr. & Mrs. starring Joseph Benjamin and Nse Ikpe-Etim, I’ll Take My Chances starring Ini Edo, Bryan Okwara and Jide Kosoko, Somewhere in Africa and Two Brides & A Baby.

Other big categories include African Film Best Actor, where Majid Michel, OC Ukeje, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Joseph Benjamin and Hakeem Kae Kazim will battle it out to win the award, African Film Best Actress with Ini Edo, Jackie Appiah, Nse Ekpe Etim, Stella Damasus and Nadia Buari will go head-to-head, GIAMA Humanitarian Award and Best Cinematography.

Speaking on the nominations, a Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards committee said surfing through the enormous amount of movies that were submitted for the GIAMA, most especially those that were produced in the Diaspora, was quite challenging to watch. However, there were a few movies that stood out and are worthy of being applauded and rewarded. Some of the movies include Bianca, Secret Past, The Mechanic, Paparazzi, Black Money and a few others. This is a clear indication that movies in the Diaspora, especially in the United States, continue to improve over time.

Top Nigerian actor/Fashion designer Jim Iyke has been announced as this year’s host.

It’s no big deal if the fans of omotola were asking her that, it’s as a result of the much love they have for her, telling her, even if she never thought it’s a big deal in the first place. leave comparison out cos omotola is way ahead.

      • feyi A September 1, 2012 at 11:34 am

something ratchet about this award sha. denzel washington, will smith and co are aware they were nominated? and all this films they nominated were they submitted abi na amaa former nominate based on popularity to gain attention style them use? na wa for all this award popping out

  • Truth hurts September 1, 2012 at 1:31 pm

Im yawning ooooo. This is all crap. Kokomma, mr&mrs and many other movies here have not been released, yet makes the list. What is this selection based on. If the people have not watched it then how do we vote. That aside Okon Lagos is an awesome film and should surely win something + it has been in the market for over 7months.

Most of the films listed above are too current and have not circulated yet, just goes to show its all a scam. We need honest people carrying out award ceremonies. I wonder how one goes up to receive an award that is not deserving, it all boils down to the saying that Nigerians are the problem and not the govt.

You all should act like Chinua Achebe who has refused any award from the federal govt cos of the kind of people those awards are given to. I dont blame him, cos its annoying to be recognised alongside one who has achieved nothing. Enticing as it may be u film makers should know when to draw the line and do the right thing.

    • Chris Inyaku September 2, 2012 at 5:09 am

Nominations were based on movies that were submitted, just like the OSCARS — I guess you are one of the smartest folks out there.. Keep talking, you are very special..

  • who? September 1, 2012 at 10:25 pm

which international award do u want genny to win with her artificial and stiff acting?

  • who? September 1, 2012 at 10:32 pm

awards here, awards there, no wonder they have lost their value entirely.

  • genny September 1, 2012 at 10:35 pm

genny is a local champion so which other awards a part from naija award do u want her to get now? una dey overrate her too much, see her Mercy Johnson don dethrone her big time. I luv Dumebi the dirty girl, Mercy J is a diva.

    • feyi A September 3, 2012 at 4:01 pm

she is a local champion but you know her so what does that make you with your namelessness???? and africa sabi you?? naija sabi you?? carribean sabi you!????!!! who expect from your friends and family. your life don dagburu sha….. pele.

  • neli September 2, 2012 at 7:19 pm

wich award apart from nigeria play award do u think genny deserve?

  • Alias September 3, 2012 at 11:10 am

Nihgerians, you people are just a bunch of complainers, that’s why your country is the way it is. Una no dey tire. In everything, you only see the negatives. Keep at it and you guys will remain where you are.

  • Lolan September 3, 2012 at 5:13 pm

This is an award for all the Nollywood actors that have been swimming in the cesspit of mediocrity. The only put Genevieve’s name there to see if they can attract her to the event which she will obviously not go. Bella Naija please stop partnering with people who don’t care about the work but the accolades

  • keechi September 5, 2012 at 8:59 am

This is a lil info for those saying that this is a Nigerian awards ceremony; plz get it right. It’s a GIAMA awards ceremony which stands for Golden Icons AFRICAN Movie Awards (meaning it’s the whole of AFRICA included..lol) and Golden Icons is the name of an entertainment company in Houston, Texas so it makes perfect sense that it would be held there NOT in Nigeria. Just saying…

  • keechi September 5, 2012 at 9:00 am

my bad I meant ACADEMY not AFRICAN…but it’s including the entire AFRICAN continent’s entertainment industry.

  • Tobi October 19, 2012 at 9:26 am

Looking forward to this one – going down tomorrow! Gon’ be great!
