Atoke’s Monday Morning Banter: Star Struck…Not the Constellation

Ever wondered why weekends are so short? You spend five long days waiting for it and when it comes, poof! It’s all over and then you start all over again. I was moaning about this recently and someone who worked in customer care reminded me to quit whining and enjoy the ‘regularity’ of the hours.

So, what did you guys get up to this weekend? I went for a wedding on Saturday. It was the perfect party. Plenty friends, plenty to drink and the music was simply off the hook. Then there was a live performance of “Today Today” by eLDee!!! I nearly screamed myself hoarse. Now, all my friends know I’m a shameless eLDee fan. I mean, “Shake Bodi” was the jam of jams in my late teens. The man can do NO wrong in my eyes. Knowing he was in the SAME space as me was enough to keep me smiling stupidly the ENTIRE time. The friend I went to the party with called me “shameless” to which I responded “I gree”.

As I think back on my ‘shakey shakey’ behaviour of Saturday, I remember how I asked Jibola to find a way to introduce me to the Threadstone guys and his response was “I can’t get over the way you were acting when I introduced you to Bez”. I’m sorry but I’m one of those people who go crazy when they see their favorite celebs in person. I’m local like that!

I remember when DBanj’s Tongolo was receiving massive air play on radio and on TV, I was on a flight to London with DBanj…. I was so star struck that I was tongue-tied. I didn’t know whether to jump or to laugh or to cry. Eventually, I played it cool and just kept asking my friend to see if he was coming back in our direction.

But that was then. Today, if I see a celeb that I’m crazy about, I’m so jumping there to tell them how great they are in my estimation. I might even faint depending on how high the celeb is on my scale of “Swoon-Worthy”.

I’m not alone in this. I found a video on YouTube of, radio personality, Toolz’ reaction to the delectable artiste, Praiz. Ain’t no shame in the game of fainting my dear friends… Ain’t no shame!

Anyway, let me leave you guys now. Have a fabulous week ahead. Find a reason to smile no matter what you’re going through and remain positive.

Don’t forget to share your experiences of how you’ve handled your celebrity sighting and what celebrity you think if you ever get a chance to meet in person would make you go crazy. What would you do if you were standing on a queue to grab a burger and Beyonce’s behind you?

Here’s a fun video on how to handle celebrity sightings.

Love, peace and cupcakes!

My cuzn jst told me not to try it and told me about her friend that met Lynxx at the club and in her excitement, she told him how she loved him and that his song was her ringtone….Guess wat the guy sed,”so what shud i do?” and he walked away….If i were in her shoes, i wud av wished the ground swallowed me….i just respected myself and looked from far wv my teeth closed sef.

No way….. Lynxxx said that??? hmmm lynxxx (to think i like him hmm).

That was cold and rude..regardless he could have tried to be nice nah…it called gratitude.

ANway if h had said that to me, it would be wisdom that would hold my tongue back ooo, cos boy I would like to just tell him about himself right there and then without raising my voice or looking like a fool. see you, abeg pack well jor. lol. and throw in some ijebu curses sef(been watching too many yoruba movies lately )…. lool. am kidding.

To fair, I will look smile and wave. pere.

ohh btw I saw Jide Kosoko and his wife on the bus 381 in London lol… I was like ooo jide, that yoruba actor… and the other time, I saw “Toyin Tomato” on the bus 136 towards Catford. I was like Toyin, how are you, was so happy to see her see me “grinning like a overjoyed fish”. lol. I was on the phone with my Ghanaian friend, who had to by force and fire speak to her. She was friendly enough, I bet she got the reaction loads of time, she prolly tired. But she was polite and said hello unlike some pple who would shun and just be RUDE (some might have their personal reasons). Either way its not a cool attitude people and very immature( refrain from it and appreciate it when people appreciate you)…

Lynx was probably drunk or something. I’ve seen him out once and though I didn’t go to say hello, he was nice to those who did. I’ve seen Davido a couple of times, forever with a battalion that’s always in the way. I met Eku once and was star struck and just mumbled ‘hi’. She’s sweet and very glam.
Biggest celeb sighting’s probably Sol Campbell on a night out in London. He was supercool. We took pictures, don’t care that I don’t watch football. In that very moment, I was ready to be a WAG.

but i didn’t. get. a. picture!!!!! i still kick myself for that! especially as he was really nice, courteous and all.

He is often nice. Saw him shopping with his daughter a while back and fellow shoppers were intruding into the family time and asking for pics, even the shop attendant. He was cool about it and obliged them all.

No be every celeb i dey expose myself to.
Some of them especially the local ones just do not know how to handle fame.
I understand that they are humans and have moods and all that but many of them are just not worth the hassle. I notice that the ones with lesser discernible talent are the ones more likely to act up.

    November 19, 2012 at 11:27 am

LOL I saw Davido at the airport in Atlanta and FREAKED OUT! I saw a group of boys just as I was saying bye to my family, before going through security. Then one of them stands out and I’m staring AND pointing at him for a few seconds, before I catch his eye and ask “Are you Davido?” He says yeah and I literally start squealing, shrieking, screaming and jumping – OMG IT’S DAVIDO OMG OMG OMGEEEEEEEEEEE. He was just laughing and posed for a picture with my sister and I, which I of course left on my BBM for daaaaaays!

My family called me aside saying I shouldn’t embarrass them like that again but I DON’T CARE! I appreciate artistes… Unless they have a bad attitude.

Lol. Funny thread. I saw Brymo at Heathrow airport a couple of months back. Kai! Considering I have a crush on him (I can’t explain why) and I love Ara so much, you’d think I’d say hello. He saw I recognised him and had an inviting look…like he’d be cool to say hello. I should have said hello and at least complimented his song but, I kept thinking I have passed that age where it’s cute to go up to a star. He’ll probably say ‘Anty, how you dey now?’. *embarassed* Yeah, 30 btw, just in case you’re wondering… 🙂

I won’t even lie, I EMBARRASSED my dang self when I saw Banky W. I frigging grabbed the guy on the arm and was so surprised when I saw my hand grabbing the guy, I snatched it back and closed my mouth. Then ran off in shame. I looked like a purple grape because I was blushing so bad. I wanted the ground to open and swallow me!

    Wow! I have so many!
Remember when Kelly Ro came to Lagos? I was on her flight back to America and I sat right next to her with my mum as well and she was so nice! She said we were so pretty and she loved my name and asked for the meaning and said she hopes to remember to give it to her daughter when she comes, spoke about her fainting on stage as well. I even took a picture with her, she’s always been my fave in destiny’s child anyway lol.
I saw Rita D in the embassy and a guy asked for an autograph for his wife… she was so rude! Shouting that he should “get off her”, don’t even recall him touching her!
Desmond E as well, someone walked up to him for a picture and my guy literally ran away or rather took a very brisk walk away! Lol I LAUGHED!
Saw Mrs Linus aka Stephanie and she was rude to other people but she was nice to me, I have no idea why.
Lisa Folawiyo is a DARLING I loooooove her and her work as well argh! I met her in my aunty’s church once I was over excited and I couldn’t talk so the meeting was quite brief. Cat bit my tongue.
Met Terry Cruz in my church in LA once and he was real nice, he was there with his wife and I took a photo with them.
Mike Epps too!! He was so so so funny, took a picture with him. Same day I saw him I saw EVE but I was too far away to say hi, she still had red hair then.
Then one day in 1k4, I saw Teju Babyface. The thing is, I LOVE HIS SHOW and his personality. He got out of the lift when I was about to get on it and I just stood and was staring like a fool. Then he said hello! good evening you look really pretty today! I started blushing like a mumu and just shouted Hello! thank you! Like i actually SHOUTED in shock that he spoke to me lol…. I missed the elevator and he stayed to have a little chat till I got on the next one, sadly I didn’t have my phone for a picture.
I met Titi K from Tinsel and she was a darling, took pictures with me and was very interested in me. We had a very lovely lengthy convo, love her.
I saw Omotola one day in Bobby’s salon a while back… she was being such a DIVA!!! But after she got her hair done and looked AMAZING she relaxed and she was so nice to everyone, dropping a little “biscuit and coke” money lol. I will never ever forget.
The day I saw Derenle… he knelt down to kiss my feet and asked for my hand in marriage IN PUBLIC!!! I was embarrassed to the core of my being! and he was now shouting and everyone was just looking, I ran away.
Met Ghost from SDC in a club, and he was so cool a little flirty tho but I liked the attention I won’t even lie.
Saw 2baba as well but I was too far to talk to him but he was really nice to everyone else around him!
I met Funke Ogunde and I could not open my mouth to talk oooooh I was just there looking. And she spoke to me and made me feel a little comfortable. she was so nice! Love her and her work.
Another day at a Basket Mouth event, I was walking to my seat in some madly uncomfortable coloured bottom heels like this and some guys were standing in front of me. I didn’t know who they were as I didn’t have my glasses on or contacts either. I tripped and fell……… guess who caught me? M.I ooooh! Jesu! He was talking to Eldee, Dr Sid and Banky W!!! They all chorused “Sorry love, sorry dear are you ok? hope you didn’t hurt yourself”. YOUR BABE WAS PRAYING THAT THE GROUND WOULD OPEN UP AND SWALLOW HER. Lord have mercy. They sha told me sorry and joked that I shouldn’t be embarrassed at least I’m a fine girl and it’s not like I was wearing shades in the dark like some other girls that were present that day… I had a good laugh.
After that I saw M.I another day and he said he thinks he has seen me before, fear did not let me open my mouth to remind him where from.
DJ Xclusive… fine boy, he’s a darling as well. met him a few times and we actually became friends 🙂
Some people are already tired of me now I’m sure lol so I’ll stop now… there are actually more but yes I will stop hope you enjoyed! From my stories I’m clearly bad at celeb sightings!

Mehn that guy fine no be small, I was just staring at him but overforming big babe no gree me talk to him.
Met Former President Olusegn Obasanjo on a flight to jo’burg, he was so nice, it looked liked he genuinely wanted to know bout me,we spent more than 15 mins chatting, took pictures and had to be warned off by the cabin crew before I gree go back to economy.
    He was really nice.
Met Teju baby face at a wedding in Ibadan, he walked past me, 1st impression, this guy is short sha, buh he was looking so fly, I cudnt resist talking to him!
