The much talked about Lagos Crossover Concert has come and gone, leaving behind memories that will linger for a very long time. Organized by the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), it was the very first of its kind and, with Nigeria’s premium lager beer, Star, stepping in as a major sponsor of the programme, much was expected from the concert which was held on 31st December 2012, the eve of the New Year.
It wasn’t just about ending the outgoing year in grand style, it was also about ushering in the New Year in a unique way. The event featured more than 15 electrifying musical performances from some of the biggest names in the Nigerian music industry including 2Face Idibia, Iyanya, Olamide, Davido, Banky W, Tiwa Sawage, Omawumi, D’Prince , MI, Brymo, Dare, W4 and a host of others.
I.K of the Big Brother Africa fame, Ariyike Akinbobola, Quest and Oreyi Keyo, who anchored the event, also did their bit to ensure that the Lagos Crossover Concert was a success. The concert brought to a climax a 10-day celebration at the Star Mega City, located within the Eko Atlantic City which saw many upcoming artistes and comedians, as well as the more established entertainers performing.
Other artistes that performed at the event included the 2012 winners of Star Quest – Crystals, Kel, Solid Star, DRB, Tunde Ednut, Orezi, Omo Akin, Pheel, Reminiscence, Eva, Flow Sick and others.
The high point of the event was the dazzling display of fireworks that came once the clock struck 12am. The night lit up with the brilliant fireworks as the audience wished themselves happy New Year.
According to Yusuf Ageni, the Corporate Adviser of Nigerian Breweries Plc., the Lagos Crossover Concert was a unique way of saying goodbye to the old year and ushering in the New Year. “It’s been quite a year for Nigerians, as well as Star, Nigerian’s premium lager beer. Just as Nigeria is still forging on, in spite of all the challenges she has had to go through, Star is also moving on to greater heights. That was why we decided to partner with Lagos State to say goodbye to the wonderful moments of 2012 and welcome 2013 with a positive outlook,” Ageni stated.
