“Beatitudes” – Presenting the MABM Fall/Winter 2013 Collection featuring African Model with Vitiligo

MABM Designs FallWinter 2013 - BellaNaija - December2013001When it comes to defining beauty, every culture has a standard. But there is a kind of beauty that is universal, that every man woman or child, no matter the language understands.

For the “Beatitudes” collection by Ghanaian fashion label MABM, the theme was confidence and self-acceptance. And what better way to show how every woman should accept herself the way she is than to use an inspiring model. Wearing colourful and stylish pieces from the collection is Kiara – the beautiful model with Vitiligo.

Vitiligo is a skin condition where some parts of the skin loose pigmentation causing white patches {to find out more, click here}.

The aim for the collection and ultimately the design label  is to bridge the gap between culture, style and fashion. It is about women being comfortable in themselves with what they wear as they embrace their sense of style.

According to the designer Maa Akua Berko-Mensah, “as a Ghanaian, my culture and upbringing have the biggest impact on the birth of my clothing line. The most important thing in our business is to adorn our women with confidence. At MABM Designs, our aim is to bridge the gap between culture, style and fashion. It’s really about women being able to be confident in themselves with what they wear as they embrace their nurtured sense of style.

I think the model is beautiful and confident and really worked the shoot but above all, I think we need more lookbooks like this. Share your thoughts.

The report says the theme is ‘the theme was confidence and
self-acceptance’. Much of the problem we have with the fashion
world always selling ‘flawlessness’ Really encouraged and proud of
likes of MABM who understands true beauty and now what the fashion
world ask her to take it as……..and also bellanaija who
      continues to celebrate us

My mum has vitiligo, Michael Jackson had Vitiligo, A female Prof in my uni has vitiligo, my neighbour has vitiligo, they all did not plan for it but it didn’t change who they are and I love them for their courage… This is a very good way to educate people on vitiligo, I am convinced that if MJ was well informed, he would not have chosen d option of bleaching his skin for an even tone as recommended by his surgeon/docs. Aww! This reminds me of my boy MJ. I hope people become more educated about vitiligo, it is not an easy disease and people should not be judged by how the choose to deal with it. He was actually working with an international vitiligo group to become an ambassador for vitiligo before everything went haywire and he did tell Oprah in 1992 or so that he had vitiligo but people did not believe him. God bless all people with vitiligo, it is not easy at all…
