Pretty Pageant Princesses & Loving Mums at Dark and Lovely’s “Beautiful Beginnings Mum & I” Beauty Pageant
It was beautiful little princesses, their doting parents and Dark & Lovely at the 1st edition Dark and Lovely Beautiful Beginnings Mum & I Beauty Pageant.
The event was hosted by Yinka Olukynga a.k.a Nenna of Nenna & Friends on Saturday 24th May 2014 at Cayley College, Lagos. It marked the grand finale of the Dark and Lovely Beautiful Beginnings Hair Maintenance week that held in schools across Lagos, educating girls on the value of hair hygiene and hair care.
L’Oreal Central West-Africa, makers of Dark and Lovely Beautiful Beginnings partnered with 15 schools and chose 28 beautiful and smart young girls who together with their mums participated in the Mum and I beauty pageant.
The show opened with the National Anthem and a brief introduction of all 28 contestants along with their mums, followed by an introduction of the panel of judges comprising of A-List Nollywood Actress Omoni Oboli, Enitan Ashley Dejo (HR Director L’Oreal Central West Africa), and Omowunmi Akinnifesi (Ex Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria), to the excited audience.
Sekou Coulibaly, the General Manager, Consumer Products Division, L’Oreal Central est Africa, gave the opening remarks, introduced the first edition of the Beautiful Beginnings Mum & I beauty pageant, and gave an overview of the hair maintenance week which had drawn to a close prior to the pageant.
Various fun activities were in place for all in attendance ranging from a hair studio for both mums and their children, to face painting booths, light refreshments such as popcorn, candy floss, cupcakes, etc, for the kids present. Also present at the venue was a Dark and Lovely Sales stand with a range of Dark and Lovely products.

While the audience waited for the showcase of the contestants, there was a dancing competitions for kids and their mums, as well as entertainment from a DJ and comedian. The winner of the dance contest was awarded a Dark and Lovely bag pack presented by Kesiena Ogbemi (Group Brand Manager, Softsheen Carson).
The contestant from Frontliners school, Adegbe Jemima alongside her mum Pauline Adegbe were awarded the sum of N50,000 and a branded Dark and Lovely Scanner for her school as the 2nd runner ups and were awarded N100,000.

Islamiyat Ibuoye of Bold Intel College alongside Akinola Bushrah Omolara (a representative for her mum) were the 1st with a branded Dark and Lovely desktop computer for Bold Intel College.

The Dark and Lovely Beautiful Beginnings Mum & I Beauty Pageant drew to an emotional close as Precious Olatunde of Cayley College and her mum Patience Olatunde were crowned the winners by Iretiogo Etsaghara (The Assistant Brand Manager of Dark and Lovely), and were awarded a cash prize of N200, 000 as well as a branded Dark and Lovely printer for Cayley College.

All in all, the first edition of the Dark and Lovely Beautiful Beginnings Mum & I beauty pageant turned out to be a fun filled and successful event and “promises to be bigger and better next year”, Sekou Coulibaly concluded.
