King Felipe VI Ascends Spanish Throne

Earlier this month, it was reported that Spain’s King Juan Carlos, decided to abdicate the throne in favor of his son, in order to make way for a “new generation.”

Today, his son ascended the throne. Felipe VI has been  formally proclaimed the new king of Spain, CNN reports. 

During a low-key ceremony,  he swore an oath before the packed parliamentary chamber, pledging  to unify his country and to work with its political leaders, to serve the interests of Spain.
