Calling All Fashion Creatives! Heineken Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2015 Announces Fashion Focus Call for Entry

Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week Fashion Focus - BellaNaija - August 2015

Are you a creative designer? Do you have a passion for fashion? Want to build your design talent? If your answer is yes to all those questions then this is a great opportunity for you!

The Fashion Focus competition, scheduled to hold during the upcoming Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2015 from 18th – 31st October, is now open for entries. Announced by Style House Files, organisers of Lagos Fashion & Design Week (LFDW), the aim of the platform is to scout for, support and develop emerging creative talent that can stimulate the growth of Nigeria’s fashion industry.

The initiative is a sync with British Council‘s ongoing work to develop innovative, high-quality events and collaborations that link artists and cultural institutions in Nigeria with their counterparts in the UK. It will also give budding fashion designers opportunities to participate in targeted workshops and networking sessions between 2015 and 2016, as well as a chance to exhibit their collection at LFDW 2015.

Last year’s winner, Temitayo Ilesanmi Nathan of fashion brand, T.I Nathan, was invited to present his work at the British Council X British Fashion Council’s International Fashion Showcase 2015 at London Fashion Week earlier on this year; and you could be next.

He commented on the experience calling it a – “defining moment for my brand and me as its Creative Director. Being privileged to showcase alongside other talented designers at the International Fashion Showcase London was a major eye opener for me. I now see the fashion industry in a totally different light – as a platform for creative expression as well as wealth creation.

Whose bright idea was it to choose Heineken of all brands as headline sponsor of fashion week? Fashion girls (and guys) don’t drink beer! It’s not fashionable (excuse the pun)! And for good reason !

A Wine / Champagne brand would have made more sense given the luxurious, glamorous, vibrant lifestyle associations that it evokes which are in line with how most designers are trying to position their labels. As a designer I definitely wouldn’t be proud to tell people that I took part in “Heineken Fashion Week”, sounds like a big joke.
