All Season Farming: Kano State Govt. Approves Drilling of 1,000 Wells

The Kano State Government has approved N 55.8 million for the drilling of 1,000 wells in 29 local governments areas to boost all season farming.

Muhammad Garba, the Commissioner for Information, announced this on Saturday in Kano, when he briefed newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.

He said that the present administration was committed to the development of agriculture, adding that the wells would boost irrigation farming in the state.

Garba also said that the council approved N133 million for the empowerment of 520 petty traders in the state.

He said that the empowerment programme was aimed at making the traders to be self-reliant.

Garba said that 20 beneficiaries would be selected from each of the eight metropolitan local governments, while the remaining 36 local governments would bring 10 beneficiaries each.

“The council also approved N9million for the evacuation of 300 lunatics from the streets of Kano metropolis. The council also approved N332 million as compensation for those affected by road construction at Dandishe quarters in Kano,” he said.

The commissioner added that N14.9 million was approved for the rehabilitation of some selected drainage in the state capital.

According to him, the council also agreed to release N84 million for the repairs and renovation of eight secondary schools in the state that were destroyed by fire.
