Pastor Paralysed at a Shrine in Ogun State While Trying to Destroy Idols
A pastor, identified as Wale Fagbere, became motionless while trying to destroy a shrine in Ketu, a community in Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Vanguard reports.
The cleric had reportedly told his congregation that he had a revelation to destroy all the shrines in Ketu community.
Fagbere got stuck in the shrine, prompting residents to raise alarm.
The priests of the shrine insisted that they must perform certain rituals on the victim before he would be released.
Vanguard reports that the intervention of the Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Abdulaziz Adelakun, saved the cleric as he was treated by the priests before he regained consciousness.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, when contacted, confirmed the incident, adding that the victim might be charged for sacrilege and malicious damage if the traditionalists lodge a complaint against the pastor.
“Everybody has right to worship anything he so desires”, Oyeyemi said.
“The police got the report in Ayetoro that one Evangelist Wale Fagbere went to Ketu to destroy a shrine. After the destruction, the man became unconscious.
When policemen visited the place, the traditionalists claimed that the subject could not be taken away until some spiritual exercise had been performed.
The Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba AbdulAzeez Adelakun, waded into the matter which led to the release of the man. The victim has been revived and has been handed over to his family for more spiritual cleansing,” Oyeyemi told reporters.
