Olawunmi Adegoke: I Can, You Can, We Can

Sometimes we give excuses, not because we don’t know what to do, but because we think that what we want for ourselves is too much for us to achieve. It feels good to rejoice and celebrate the achievement of others, but when it comes to ourselves, we often feel we can’t get such wins.

Do these sound like the kind of thoughts that run through your mind? Then let us talk.

I know you must have heard this a lot: If you think it, you can make it. While this is only a part of the story and not the entire gist, it is probably the most important requirement for setting out. You may be saying “I have heard several times how I am capable of doing this or that, but it all ends in talks.”

Can I tell you why this is so?

A lot of the time, we are waiting for the perfect situation for us to get started. Or even when we get started, we often feel we aren’t as professional as others, and we say to ourselves: I am just in a small corner of my room, trying my hands at this.

Interestingly, everyone out there achieving their goals started from this same point, but what differentiates one from the other is the ability to stick with their vision against all odds.

Another reason why most people don’t ever set out is that they keep wanting to know everything, the entire journey, how the process will go, before they set out. But what happened to “little drops of water make a mighty ocean”?

Too many times people compare themselves using unfair standards, and this leads to depression. But the truth is: whatever you see in others and desire to achieve is still very possible. What it means is that those you see and wish to be like started earlier than you did.

I advise you to do the following

  1. Identify that thing/goal you need to achieve that will give you the greatest satisfaction.
  2. Set out with the information you have.
  3. Persevere against all odds.
  4. Go all out with your fighting spirit.
  5. Believe in yourself.

This post isn’t just a motivational talk. There is so much out there for you to achieve, so much contribution to making the world a better place. It only requires that you dust yourself up, believe in yourself, and make the move today.
