Ambode Promises to Enhance Collective Prosperity

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Monday reaffirmed that his administration was ready to partner with corporate and philanthropic organisations to improve the standard of living of residents and enhance collective prosperity.

Ambode, represented by Idiat Adebule, the Deputy Governor, said this at the presentation of Christine Adebajo as the new District Governor of the International Association of Lions Clubs, District 404B-2, Nigeria.

He commended the club for making significant impact in communities in the State.

”We recognise your positive contributions in Lagos State, which is why the State Government has decided to identify with you on this occasion.

Institutions like yours have lent credence to the fact that we all do not have to hold public positions to serve.

We can in our individual capacities and as a group contribute in our own little ways to making life more comfortable for the less privileged in our society.

Such efforts will go a long way in increasing the effects of the various government efforts to reduce poverty and generally make life easier for the people, ” he said.

Also speaking, Lt. Gen. Oladipo Diya, a former Chief of General Staff and Chairman of the programme, said that the club had impacted meaningfully on the lives of Nigerians through its yearly projects.

Diya urged the club to do more in the area of membership drive to strengthen, spread and improve its humanitarian services to the society, especially at the grassroots.

In her remarks, Adebajo, the new 2015/2016 District Governor of the club, said that the Lions Club was interested in the welfare, health, standard and progress of the society.

She said that the club was also interested in complementing the efforts of government by assisting the less privileged in the society and alleviating the sufferings of the downtrodden.

Adebajo, however, urged wealthy and good-spirited Nigerians to support the club to make life meaningful for the people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event also featured fund raising for effective execution of the club’s water project in Lagos as well as the building of a hospice for care of terminally ill patients in Ekiti State.
