The woman who has created numerous unforgettable movie characters – Jenifa/Suliat/Omo Ghetto…Funke Akindele is on the cover of the new issue of Y! Magazine.
Funke has featured on so many magazine covers and this is definitely one of our faves.
Check on it.
**
It’s an edgy and sexy Funke Akindele on the cover of the influential pop culture brand Y! Magazine. The actress holds centre stage for the magazine’s 7th edition as it profiles the most exciting ideas across Nigeria — in technology, business, education, fashion, development, entertainment, the media, governance and more.
“Funke Akindele is a public face and name who best exemplifies the trend of pushing the envelope and staying at the cutting edge,” says Adebola Williams, who is managing editor for the magazine. “Where Nora Ephron meets Tyler Perry, she has several created iconic pop culture characters using indigenous language. Her movies are continuously at the cutting edge and she has set upon raising standards in a way that is inspiring to a new generation of filmmakers and professionals across sectors.”

“This edition is very dear to our hearts. We went around the country to look for the best ideas, the brightest innovations, the most cutting edge technology – young Nigerians who are doing amazing work across sectors and setting a new standard for Nigeria’s future.”
There’s a feature on the exciting Co-Creation Hub, an arena that pools talent, ideas and projects that are redefining Nigeria’s technology space; the Innovation Factory which is changing the way we see New Media in Nigeria; Student Circle which is revolutionising the way students across the country access knowledge, two young people who have found a solution to Nigeria’s power challenge and two deal web sites that are changing the way we buy and sell.
There is an interview with Idris Ayo Bello, an ideas factory who is responsible for Wennovation, Libraries Across Africa, AfyaZima, and The Next Cool Idea, a conversation with the three young men who run the path-finding Jobberman.com as well as an interview with the two young men behind the influential music website NotJustOk.com.
The magazine also travels the country and discovers that the governments of Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Anambra are harnessing their young citizens and grooming them for global competitiveness.

Y! also interviews 12 young Nigerians aged 21 and below, and christens them ‘The New New Establishment’. They are already driving Nigeria’s future and include designer Adebayo Oke-Lawal, blogger SheiFunmi, Bookneto founder Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and Sokoto-based Ahmed Mukoshy who created the Yarnable website.

All of this is capped off with a delicious mishmash of pop culture highlights — including the ‘Signorina Vintage’ style shoot, Terence Sambo exploring colonial architecture in Lagos, a feature story profiling the rise of the glossy magazine, interviews with Banky W, Kelly Hansome, Beat FM’s Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, Soundcity’s Olamide Adedeji, Tinsel’s Gbenro Ajibade, and reviews of music, movies, radio, television, stage restaurants, gadgets and books from across the country.
“This is not the usual fare that you’d find in magazines – we have gone the extra mile to find a bouquet of the most impressive ideas from young Nigerians, who are now able to compete in a global economy.
These are the guys who really own the future; these are the guys we should be celebrating. We’re extremely proud of what our team of editors has presented to our readers this issue – it’s a gift!”
Y! Magazine is now available with vendors and stores across the country.

Funke looks good and the stylist tried for her here. Abeg who’s the guy in the 3rd pic? His eyes are giving a strong case of “lustingitis”. lol. @ Beebee, you’re entitled to your opinion tho i’m suspecting some folks will soon come on to ask u why you call Funke local.
Y oh Y ! (Pun intended) Is this magazine designed in Microsoft Word? Say it ain’t so!
This is one case where a book should be judged by its cover cause the inside pages from what are previewed above just go completely downhill. Using cheap( or free web fonts), crap designers and photographers who have just completed Photostudio 101 is not the way to go
C’mon Naija, this is at the best mediocre work, you guys need to step up your game, there’s no way in hell I would be buying this!
This comment is laughably ridiculous and wreaks of desperation to come across as intellectual when in fact your “points” are completely baseless and self-defeating. But by all means continue to deceive yourself that it matters if you “will be buying this!”.
love the new school, so true, these people are actually inspiring the youth. i cant wait to read it
Funke oh..dis lady is so f**king talented, i love her..funke kan, Nigeria kan, you rock!!
So Funke is a celebrity?
what kind of question is this?..hiss
In Nigeria (And maybe outside too), YES she is. And she deserves to be.
DEAL WITH IT!
question????…….*eyes rolling*
Yes she is a celeb hun. Deal with it. *tongue out*
@ no dignity, who is a celebrity? Are u sure u know why people are called celebrities?

Funke omo akindele, may GOD continue to take u higher more wisdom.
Funke is hot though. Can’t even fault her look on this cover. And her body language and facial expression emit serious intelligent, confident vibes. It’s hard to get it right – most non-professional models on covers of magazines usually end up looking too sexy for what it is they’re featured on.
funke looks hot in d first pic…
with her photoshoped hips, one looks slimmer than the other, otherwise nice dress and d 2nd picture – her shoes r cool:-)
Y magazine is killing it. YOu guys are amazing
I got the mag yesterday! Funke is REALLY impressive – I didnt event know half the story. iLike
Funke U rock gal
Wow – the NJO guys is old tho. Generally I like the stories YNaija magazine does – refreshing content
OK, here is the thing. I think an over-whelming majority of nigerian magazines are crappy both in layout and content. On a scale of 1 to 10, this edition of Y magazine is a tepid “5″.
1. The layout (3 on the 1-10 scale)is a bit bland and the font gives it away as an amateur’s job.
2. I strongly believe every form of media should find it’s own “voice”. I’m an avid reader of a great deal of media content (The Atlantic, The Economist, Rotman, The Contrarian e.t.c) and I’ve always been struck by how they all seem to have a unique tone to how they write. The Economist is characterized by it’s dry understated wit and it’s presentation of facts with a certain exactitude that makes you imagine the articles were written whilst drinking tea and nibbling on cookies. The Atlantic is characterized by it’s lenghty insightful articles and a writing style reminiscent of Mark Twain. I could go on and on . . .
The gratuitous use of the word “pop culture” and what seems like an unrepentant recycling of people and ideas we already know and have previously read about (prolly else-where) in a self-styled “intellectual” magazine comes off forced as opposed to effortless.
3. There is little shame in admitting that there is a dearth of big ideas in the world (and to a worse extent – Nigeria); the challenge for us all (Y naija included) is to ruthlessly distill those big ideas from the noise and serve them to the public with out injecting “OMG”, “Wow”, “trendy” etc into every sentence.
My apologies if what I’ve written comes off as disrespectful or “hateration”, this is my opinion served with no malice – only a desire to see these peeps raise the bar.
Then start producing your own magazine, so that it can have all those things missing in Nigerian magazines, in it. Simples. Shebi they say Be the change that you want. Oya na… If it is that easy!!
i luv funke shoes.i guess the criticisms here are constructive cos it makes Y step up their game and i tink they av not been totally accepted by Nigerians hence the criticisms.@Beebee that was too harsh, there are subtle ways of saying this cos ow wud u feel if some1 directed this statement to u,buh well evry1 is entitled to his/her opinion.i tink i know dis Bayo-Oke guy 4m Lagos Island local government who is still a corps member, his face cant be mistaken.
@Just hear me out na waa for you oo. all this long grammar/story for what? hia!!
by the way Funke looks stunning. thumbs up to her stylist and photographer.
and oh Just hear me out what were you saying a gain?(rolling eyes SMH)
my gbogbo Jenifa. Repping all the Jennies
Speak for yourself o! I am not that type of “Jenifa” abeg
And “just hear me out”m – have you actually read the magazine edition or you have discerned that it doesnt have a voice like The Ecobomnist or The Atlantic just from looking at Funke’s picture?

- I was quite surprised to read this ’cause my comment was actually that with people like Ahmed Mukoshy, Idris Bello and others who I havent heard about plus allk tht Student Circle, Innovation Factory etc – these are people I havent ever heard about. Did you read a different story here than I? Or did you take a criticism of some other platform and just repeat it?
Too many holes in your high-sounding logic. It’s tiring. Also cliche.
Dang Ifeanyi dike is HOT! Love him as Titan / Toks on Tinsel
The stylist did a good job. I like the black dress a lot

loving this cover photo of Funke A…supa gorgeous! As for no dignity, REALLY??? wow is all I can say! as for beebee or watever, I know every tom, dick and mary is entitled to their own opinion but u need to define the “local” u are talking about…aaaahn! o ga o #dumb-dumbs!
