American University of Nigeria hosts the 2nd Edition of its Homecoming Event in Yola – View the Exclusive Photos

Last year, BN brought you all the exclusive photos and details from the American University of Nigeria‘s “2011 AUN Homecoming” in Yola. Now the school is back with the 2012 edition – this time bigger and better.
Read an AUN’s student account of the homecoming event;
Homecoming is one of the biggest events at AUN and the second most exciting week during the academic year – Graduation week being the most exciting because of the prospect of graduating and finding out what lies ahead in the real world.
The first edition started in 2011 from Friday 28th October 2011 to Wednesday 2nd November 2011, shortly after the creation of the Office of Student activities and involvement with Dorsey Jnr Spencer headlining the series of events.
This year, homecoming started on Monday 22nd October 2012 and ended on Saturday 27th October 2012 with different events that make sure students, alumni, staff and the community (at American University of Nigeria) have an exciting time.
From dorm decorations, to the Mr & Miss AUN Pageant football, basketball and volleyball games and finally the Homecoming ball. This year’s AUN theme and concept was taken from the Matrix Revolutions, where most of the events were named after a part of the trilogy movie. It also looks to involve most of the departments in AUN, making them have a part to play in the planning, implementation and execution of all the events.
From the photos below, the event sure looked like fun. From the highly entertaining musical performance by Lynxxx to the crowning of Francis as Mr AUN and Claire Maduka as Miss AUN 2012, the 2012 American University of Nigeria Homecoming was surely as sight to behold.

Didnt know they get down like this n the north…………….the fear of BH would have stop me frm having maximum fun
you are ignorant
“American Univerity of Nigeria???? <<>>, I can never ever imagine hearing Nigeria University of America..take a seat please whomever named this school.
the haters will always be back, you take a seat and tell your goverment to make a nigeria a developed country that can put up universities in under developed countries, only an uneducated person would make such a comment!
abi ooh… dont you think its because an american university came together with innovative nigerians to create the school or because it is a branch of an american university that is called that? what better name should it be called if not an american university when the standards used in the school are american and 90 percent of the instructors in the school are americans…. my dear you definately dont deserve the laptop or phone you used to post such a stupid comment. Go to school and learn that your country isnt developed enough to build a university in anywhere in the world
Honey you take a seat as well.. Trust me there is not one damn school in nigeria anywhere close to the schools in America…How do I know? because I have girlfriends who teaches in schools in Nigeria, when they moved back and when I went there, I totally understood that it was genius who figured if I put “American” in the school name, people would be sold to my idea. SOOO believe me majority let me say 90 percent of the schools in America are regulated by the government and it you for one second have this crazy imagination that an “American Univeristy” decided to open a school in Nigeria, then you need to really sit your ass down. My point was to say Nigeria should be original and stop potraying another country to be better than your own by giving them the luxury of having a school named after their country in your country. America would never do it because they feel no one is better than them.
@ common sense, u really think d school was established by american university….Give me a break.
Are you serious? Have you ever heard of The American university? Yea, Nigeria is only one of its MANY international campuses. Do your research before you throw a tantrum o.
Yep. Some renowned Business Schools in the world have their satellite campuses in Africa. It’s likely that this school has some sort of affiliation to/with American University, Washington DC .
American University was a school founded in Washington, DC several years ago in 1892. They have opened up SEVERAL universities around the world including, Paris, Beirut, Rome, Cairo, and many more. So the name of the school is very fitting as it an international campus of American University.
see how you just showed the whole world how ignorant you are..sad something
Perhaps I can understand what you are saying. Naija babes once you travel go yankee you go know say the schools no be the same at all. Maybe if I get, you are saying let naija go and make an impact in another country and not other countries always doing something here. Truth hurts sha, our government people no serious so until then any and everyone are welcomed
Mel you sound bitter, CHILL!
You would never hear the Nigerian University of America because no one is about to emulate the crack pot system of education in the country. The American University of Nigeria is bringing quality education to the country to enable people like myself and others who go here, right the wrong in our own system.
Despite popular belief Adamawa is a christian state and it is hella fun to be in AUN (if you can afford it)
Here, the best minds are being prepared for world take over, while your hating we’ll be making progress.
As for J taking your grown ass to somewhere you wont have to bring yourself all the way down to point out “children”.
nigeria the nation who are never original in anything whatsoever, except 419. Always copy copy
how is this copy copy? its basically an american university, and homecoming is a tradition in many universities in america..sigh

My cousin who passed 3 years ago, was one of the active trailblazers that laid the groundwork in Washington, DC for opening of American University in Nigeria. Seeing these pictures truly lifted my spirits, seeing that her hardwork and others have come to pass. Her memory and works will live on. Thanks for the post.

“YAWN”……In other news….I’m hungry! ooooooo…and i have a headache :’(
Is homecoming not supposed to be black tie? Why am I seeing club wear?
nope ! Homecoming is not a black tie event in American Universities. It’s usually a time when alumnus return to the campus of their Colleges. There are usually different activities like a parade, sports, cultural activities, class reunion parties, and a banquet.
hmmm!!! all this boka haram haven. well sha, northerners can not be left out of rocking too.
Ignorance really is a bad thing please if you can educate yourself that you are here on BN commenting means you have access to a computer and or cellphone google is indeed your friend. American University of (insert country) exists in so many countries like has been explained to you United States International University has a branch in Africa in Nairobi Kenya do you want them to change the name as well as for the copy copy community the school is American they will have American traditions and customs in the school in addition to the host country’s customs. Google before you type is the new think before you talk that is all!
At least I’am sure this Universtity dosen’t have cult wars and the rest. If only all Nigerian universities could be like this!
LADY MEL OOOOH GOOOGLE IS YA FRIEND….. please you dont need to embarrass yourself here. are you really that ignorant??? dont you know that developed countries actuallly have schools in other countries? dont you about the existence of british international schools? dont you know that your country doesnt have an educational standard and so uses british and american standards to teach? are you sure you have ever been abroad? dont you think that if they were scamists, people would have figured that out by now? these are the questions i would like you to answer because i am sure that by the time you think about the answers you would want to delete your senseless comment

how much is the school fees for this school? I really want to know
ok i just checked N2,519,000 for a year. It is well
I heard the school belongs to atiku, the former vpresident….it is true?
so i heard too….
But seriously guys how did home coming become so serious to the skol nd all dat..u ppl should chill a beg!!! Urrggg they look gud nd bisola luks as gud as eva
Nice pictures. Definitely much nicer than last year’s.
This Atiku’s University. The Abti American University Yola was simply renamed American University Yola.
YES ATIKU OWNS THE SCHOOL. And please how is this hating? This word hating is soooo overly used. This school period is not owned by Americans nor is it up to American standards, I went to Clark Univeristy in Atlanta, GA. So why do I need to be bitter or hate??? Anyways I’ve said it and if you dont like it go KICK ROCKS and GET YOUR LIFE, PERIOD, END OFF STORY AND GREAT DAY.
HBCU IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TELL EM WHY U MAD …..American university in yola oshi!!!!!!!!!!….
how do u know it is not up to american standards, madam? and atiku does not own the school, he is only the founder. what’s ur p sef? jeez!!
I also went to Howard University, and I see no reason for your brain ejaculation. Relax, how many schools in Africa have American standards of education? Must they have American standards and levels of research to be considered American? They are just trying to structure it/align it with the US system of College Education, provide exchange programs for young Nigerians to travel out and gain some insightful exposure to 1st World Education; And here you are talking down on the good intentions of people who started this school. Clark University alum, what the hell have you done to change and uplift our youth in Nigeria?!
atiku does not own the school, he finances it..the school is affiliated with the American University in Washington D.C, and if you really school in U.S then you are ignorant and do not know that there are American University in al least 20 diff countries, there is ~American University of Dubai, American University in Paris, e.t.c
Atiku founded the school, n other words he asked the American university in Washington DC to run a school he had already established . Hence the name change, so basically, it is a branch of the American university in DC.
lady mel please tell me that you searched on google before coming on here again.what is your problem? please be calm it is never that serious. thank God you went abroad to study. the school is a registered international campus of the american university in washington DC, please GOOGLE THIS. atiku took the idea to them over there to have an
international campus in nigeria. he funded it and also got big company owners to fund it too. that is WHY he is the OWNER. and so the american university in DC sent instructors to lecture students here and the school is run by white people. the president is even white and the vice president is black american so they use american standards to run the school. even the courses offered are american courses and the grading system american . if you can not research about it please come to yola and seee for your damn self. please stop posting shit about aun and saying that the standards are low or it is fake. dont say what you dont know, it can get you in serious trouble. thats the problem with you nigerians, you can never believe that anything good can come out of your country and its because of people like you that nigeria is progressing slowly. now that i have educated you please go and google alll this and confirm
Abti student trying so hard to defend their school how cute …lmao
It always amazes me how Nigerians believe America does not copy anyone. People, do not believe the hype. Americans love copying others. Unlike us, they make it their own. For instance, virtually 80% of American tv programs are copies of British shows. Copying is human. But if you like the idea, make it your own and be proud. I am proud of this university, though I wish it opened itself more to college professors like me who are Nigerian.
fuckin miss this school…damn1
Abti is a really nice school…. heard they give free ipads now?!
…you need to win a contest that OR earn it somehow. Not free.
Maybe its just my personal taste but I would think the dress code would be more formal and less club like as its a school event with teachers and alumni (who might be offering job opportunities) around….
heard the school has fresh babes!! aisha aliyu 4life!
KEEP HATING!!!!! Y WE ENJOY D GOOD LIFE…….D NAME “AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA” GIVES U RESPECT, PRIVILEGE, ADVANTAGE OR EDGE OVER ANYTHING U THINK IT IS IMPOSSIBLE ANYWHERE U GO, ESPECIALLY IN NAIJA……I CAN TESTIFY TO DT. SO FCUK ALL U HATERS!!!!!….WE WILL KEEP DOING WAT WE DO BEST. I MISS AUN 4 REAL. @ ladymel…..STOP HATING!!!!!
…naaah…not true.
I’ve never made a comment on bella naija before but I want to say that Mel is the most ignorant human being I’ve ever come across. for someone that studied abroad u are still an illiterate as far as I’m concerned and it’s because of people like you that Nigeria will never move on… that’s all I have to say
Errr, nice…. The Ex Mr AUN looked very fab, the current, nice looking too, but this Miss AUN…. e no make am o…. I thnik Uduaka looked better, nice smile too… Neways Congrats Y’all!
bunch of overgrown babies,nothing interesting!
i heard they pay a whooping sum of 2.3m naira a session. anyways my younger brother told me the school is out of nigeria in terms of lectures and studies. i also believe the school is affiliated to america somehow. thumb’s up for Atiku.
