BN Red Carpet Fab: The Future Awards 2011

It is the first BN Red Carpet Fab of 2011!

The 2011 Edition of the Future Awards was a celebration of all that is great about Nigeria – the brave and enterprising youth who are challenging the status quo and pushing Nigeria forward.
On the red carpet, guests chose to support the budding African fashion industry by wearing pieces by Nigerian designers.

Past editions of the Future Awards have been noted for the brave looks on the red carpet, this year, guests applied a subdued yet even more glamorous approach. We saw trends done right including Genevieve Nnaji rocking a 70s style jumpsuit by Meena; Omowunmi Akinnifesi channeling old school divas in a long sleeve floor length red dress by House of Nwocha; Yvonne Nwosu of Vonne was a vintage vamp in a shimmery dress with transparent panels; Omotola maintained her “Omosexy” status in floor length dress by Sally Bawa; The quartet of Dolapo OniToni Tones, Eku Edewor & designer, Bridget Awosika looking stunning in pieces by Bridget Awosika.

Overall, it was an exciting style night out.

Experience the most comprehensive (and fabulous) red carpet coverage of the 2011 Future Awards – we present BN Red Carpet Fab – The Future Awards 2011 Edition.

BN Pick – Best Dressed
One of our BN wishes for 2011 was that new Style Stars would emerge this year! While we were busy wishing, some of our favourite stylistas have taken the extra step to reinvent themselves on the red carpet.
Our BN fave at the Future Awards 2011 was Omowunmi Akinnifesi.
She made a brave choice with this floor-length textured and layered red dress. This is a very unexpected choice from the ex-beauty queen. It is a difficult dress to rock but Omowunmi totally blossomed in this House of Nwocha dress. Her gold Jimmy Choo heels and Chanel clutch sealed the deal. Love the modern braided chignon and delicate red drop earrings.

BN Faves
Yummy Mummy Alert! It was great to see Omotola and so many other celebrities supporting young Nigerian designers. Omotola wore a teal and lace dress from upcoming Nigerian designer, Sally Bawa.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde in Sally Bawa

To wear an outfit like this, you must be confident and have a slamming fit body! Genevieve Nnaji ticks all the right boxes in this indigo jumpsuit from promising young designer talent, Meena (by Uju Offiah).

This Bridget Awosika dress looked even more beautiful in ‘person’. The flow of the skirt and the modern structure of the top created a stunning look on stage for Dolapo Oni who was one of the co-hosts of the show.

And did u see someone else wearing and co. with uche jombo? dont like genevieve’s outfit one bit, dont think it flattered her at all.T.Y Bello looks like an air hostess, amaka in that leopard looks like she belongs at the Gatsby in jerseylicious, overall, people looked good and dressed to the nines and naija designers are Da B-O-M-B! am so proud but ituen bassey shd watch out and up her game o the competition is fierce, her designs are always same old, same old all the time. Oh and lynxx, abeg abeg abeg u….are….HOT.

      February 1, 2011 at 10:07 pm

i do not. i love what uche jombo is wearing, bt i dont like the back picture, its almost like shes bending to something infront, not aware the shot is being taken, they should hv told her to enable a good pose, and way too close and way too bold, i was at the award and saw her, she looks lovely. looking at the front pose you can tell so enough of this hate/ diss comments.

To start with,Bella Naija;you’re doing a GREAT job! I’m proud to be a fan of you guys!!!!!
Secondly, our Nigerian designers are doing a wonderful job, thumbs up to all of them…
Who wowed me? Virtually all of ’em,but some stood out more than the others..*wink wink*
    Omowunmi Akinifesi,Eku Edewor,Priscilla Suchi Best,Kemi Adetiba,Genevieve Nnaji,Bubu Ogusi and a whole lot..
The men: Banky W-warapened to your suit? where u sleep? Anyway,i like what I’m seeing though. Dimeji Alara(i’ve got a funny crush on you.I know you have no baggy jeans in your closet and i like it like that..Ifeanyi Dike isn’t bad..Dunno why I’m thinking M.I sexy in that outfit…. Lil H looks like Lil Jesse Jagz(never mind).RMD is aging gracefully and i like it..but to think i once had a crush on that man sef….
This is where I’ll drop my golden pen in the basket of love *winks*

  20. Lady Jaye

    February 1, 2011 at 3:03 pm

actually, genevieve looked kinda old to me – i can’t tell if it was the makeup or the camera angle. Omotola looked great. uche also looked old to me, but Omowunmi akinnifessi was by far the best dressed

    • nelly

      February 2, 2011 at 2:33 am

and you look young to me…….wait of course i cant see you cos you are behind a lap top / computer, old look comment on genny n uche is not cool, what’s that? if u don’t have anything important or intelligent to add, move on and dont post insults….how is anyone looking old ur problem in the first place? the dress is showing too much tummy on omotola but picture nice n i love her for wearing a young designer, its d future awards after all. stop knockn heads

Bella Naija, this is great coverage. You guys have stepped up. kudos. I am really impressed with HOUSE OF NWOCHA. Good tailoring. WHAT is Uche Jombo wearing? The group CHASE, Moyeen and Ufuoma Ejenobor’s ensemble was impressive. Loads of other cool desins too. The designers are taking it up a notch. Kewl!

    February 1, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Damn! is Omotola’s booty real? woosh!!!!O_O and what is Uche Jumbo waering? smh

    • jane

      February 2, 2011 at 2:48 am

the back shot of uche’s dress is a bad shot simple cos u sure won’t ask the same question if its only the front picture. she looks great cos her only sin is the pose{ looks like shes bending towards something} will it kill them to let her know they were doing a back shot? lookn at both shots its hard to say that bold back {too much zoom at work}and the front pic is one and the uche jumbo.

    • ugo

      February 2, 2011 at 1:23 pm

i agree with you jane, this kind of bad picture shouldnt be in a fashion site, terrible pose, you cant match the front shot and the back shot. bad photography, i love uche’s silk gazar dress, even looked better in person, that u might not understand it is why its called fashion my dears, i love that uche has her “i dress for myself” style that works most times and this look worked cos i saw it live on that green carpet. fashion police should lock up the photographyer cos i saw this dress myself live

  34. Ziariz

    February 1, 2011 at 4:22 pm

lovely..9ja no dey carry last…genevieve looked grgeous and so did omotola and a lot of the ladies..absolutely stunning..and i am so glad our naija designers are doing a great work, pple are no longer waiting to be employed, we have entertainers coming up and now designers.
at least young graduates know it’s not the end of the world when they don’t get jobs, all they need is some talent and the right publicity…9ja..we hail thee…

I don’t know if people congratulate Genevieve just cus they already like her but let’s keep it real, her face looked oily! The outfit was nice but she was underdressed. When I look at the other guests it’s hard to think that Omotola and her attended the same event… she looks casual chic not Award show… And yes! @ Lady Jaye I agree with you she looks old. She needs to get it together with that makeup.

      February 2, 2011 at 2:43 am

genny and omotola, blah blah blah
that comparison is soooooo 2006! is it by force to compare? genny looks great! you don’t have to wear a dress all the time.
“genny didn’t fit the event, genny always wears too much black, blah blah”

    • partyrider

Best dressed Females: Omowummi, Genevieve, and Omotola no wonder dey were d 1st 3. As 4 best dressed male, I can only say Lynxx… all others i really couldnt get their style… ” dats just my opinion”. However, D house of Nwocha dress dat Omowummi wore i wish it had a side zip or maybe an invincible zip in d back, I thnk it would have made d dress flawless… Yet, it’s still d best dress of d night…But oh well, dis is just my 2 cents… I thot i’d share…

  57. Shola

    February 1, 2011 at 6:54 pm

Im vry surprised at House of Nwocha, this is the best dress iv evr seen by her, she’s lucky Omowunmi wore it, Im sure thats why it looks so hot.

Cant rly get excited by Genevieve’s jumpsuit when someone else wore it before her, Adaku Ufere of wore it last year, pics were all over her blog and twitter. Theres evn a poll on another blog over who wore it better btw the both of them.

Too much skin on Eku Edewor, she looks beautiful but too much flesh on display.

Omotola was my favourite by far, that woman is too beautiful.

Not feelin’ MOST of these garments, but I guess options are limited in Naija. By the looks of it, Bridget Awosika deserved her Designer of the year award!

I must say two ladies did it for me on the red carpet. Omowunmi A and Matse Uwatse. Omowunmi had the western look and Matse gave us a classy african print in modern style. I saw Matse’s shoes and could kill for it. It is the Golden shoe amongst the accessories selection up on this page. Kudos TFA!!!!!!!!

My thoughts exactly. Bridget is definitely the best dressed in my opinion and she wouldn’t be out of place on the golden globes red carpet.

Why is a guy wearing a corsage? Edgy gone bad! Most people looked nice and Naija designers are stepping up.

I cannot understand, however, how the “Vonne” lady can wear something so vulgar. Aside from the fact that the outfit looks outdated, the cut-outs are just wrong. I just can’t!!!

I thought I was the only one with functioning eyes in this place. I do NOT like most of these clothes either. Seems like Naija designers are trying too hard to mix western fashion with African fashion and the end result is a hot mess! Kinda like, too many cooks spoil the meal. In addition, many Naija women do not know how to dress and match accordingly. You see them wear blue dress and then yellow shoes, black dress and pink shoes, orange dress and sky blue shoes. At the end, they are looking like clowns invited to a halloween party. Hopefully, they will get it right someday because if they dressed like that here in yankee, they would easily be mistaken for ghetto mamas!

    February 2, 2011 at 2:59 am

Bridget Awosika really deserved her award! just by seeing her designs on the red carpet, she is ON POINT!
Vonne….i had hope in that girl, but she let me down. WTF is she wearing?!?!
i was hardly disappointed by anyone, most got it right and some could still use a little tweaking, & just SOME were really mind boggling.
BEST DRESSED: Omowunmi & Genevieve (as always), Omotola (her dress looks really tight and made her stomach look kinda big) Ugonna Omeruo…nice nice (but please do away with the different green shoes and earrings, big NO.

Chantelle Unachukwu actually got dressed today (LOL!)
Eku Edewor is usally one of my favorites, but this time, she didn’t do it for me. not really crazy about the style of the dress.
Ituen Basi is another great designer!
and i think i spotted Uju Murphy amongst the people (guests) in the last section.

btw: love your new addition on “accessories”
makes your red carpet coverage all the more interesting.

Omowunmi shut the daggone show down. Kilode? It should be a taboo for anyone to show up at an event looking that good unless it’s ur birthday , wedding , anniversary or frigging house warming or boutique launch. She made everyone look like they came to celebrate her. Lmao…that’s what’s up folks

Please what does omowunmi Akinnifesi do? Chic be rocking some high-end designers like water

      February 3, 2011 at 2:21 pm

i believe some designers either pay her or allow her to wear their dress on the red carpet, for free.
its done a lot in Hollywood, so i believe its the same in her case.
idk though, but thats what im thinking.

    February 3, 2011 at 7:00 pm

  111. Salama

    February 3, 2011 at 8:38 pm

I’m surprised at how many compliments Omowunmi’s getting. I usually like her style but this dress is not just the bizness (to me). Fire-engine red, heavy lace from head to toe, red accessories (the earrings)…I find the get-up a little tacky. Reminds me of a character from a 1990s telenovela, lol. I can just see someone in “Secret of the Sands” rocking this outfit. She has a banging figure and beautiful face to make up for the blooper sha, so I forgive her this time.
