International model Alek Wek joins Angelina Jolie & Sophie Lauren as the newest UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) National Goodwill Ambassador

On Sunday, just days before the World Refugee day – Thursday June 20th – South Sudanese born British model Alek Wek was announced as the newest member of the ambassadors of goodwill under the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). She joins the ranks of Angelina Jolie and Sophie Lauren in this initiative.Alek Wek UNHCR Ambassador - BellaNaija - June2013

The theme for this year is ‘1 family torn apart by war is 1 too many‘. Alek had this to say about her new job “I am humbled and honored to be presented with the role of UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. It is thrilling to receive this at a conference full of business people and political leaders who are working to increase development, education and healthcare in Africa

    I absolutely LOVE Alek Wek and have always thought this lady was sizzling hot right from the start of her runway career when many of her fellow black people denounced her as being “too black” and caucasian designers saw the potential in this beautiful chocolate sister. Go Alek, well done you!

    BN how comes you guys use American spelling on your posts? “honored” “mom” etc Nothing wrong with it if that’s what you guys prefer I just found it strange because the English taught in Nigerian Schools is based on British English spelling, being a former colony and all…
