How They Met
From the groom
It was a Saturday like any other and I was relaxing after a long week at work. One of my very good friends Bose called to let me know that there was a 40th birthday party she wanted to invite me to. Initially I refused because I was so tired but then my sister from another Mother, Sase, called to ask what was going on that night, I told her about the party and told her I was not sure I was going – but she eventually convinced me – Sase is persuasive like that, her mouth sweet well, well. Lol. So I jumped in the shower and got dressed, went to pick up Sase and was prepared to not stay long at the event.
We walk in and as I surveyed the room I notice her. Standing tall, commanding the room, gorgeous and with the most beautiful smile I had ever seen. She had this mane of hair on her head, looking all Amazonian. But there was one problem – she was hanging around this guy almost the whole night so I was not sure she was single (he would turn out to be her older brother). I kept my eye on her all night, and eventually she moved from the guy’s table to a table with a group of 5 – 6 of her girlfriends. As any man with sense knows, it is extremely dangerous to try to approach a group of women, especially when you are not sure the lady you are after is single.
So I sent Sase to do some Mission Impossible and Inspector Gadget work for me. Sase came back and said that the coast was clear, she was single and that her name was Dupe. The whole time Sase was giving me grief because she said I was “dulling” and I should just go talk to her. But a gentleman waits until the right moment abi? When I saw my opening, I walked up to her. She had her back to me, I put my hand on the small of her back, leaned in and said “Dupe, Right?”
She turned around and smiled – and the rest is history …
The Proposal
From her eyes
On this particular Wednesday I went on what I thought was a routine sushi girls night with my wing women Wunmi and Olumide, little did I know that having sushi that night was the last thing on their minds. As I arrived at Wunmi’s place to head to our destination, Olumide calls with a last minute change of plans. Instead of going to sushi she wanted us to meet her and a few of her friends that were visiting from out of town at the W hotel rooftop. I had a long day filled with work and meetings and wanted to head home since plans had changed. My car was in the shop so I couldn’t high tail it without assistance so I called Osa to convince me not to go. Upon speaking with him he said “I’m on my way to the gym go with them and if you really don’t feel up to it then I will leave and come pick you up.” So I decide to go, as we approached the W hotel, it brought back fond memories of my first date with Osa about two years earlier. On the date we had a great dinner and ended our evening on the rooftop at the W to enjoy the view of the city. Little did I know that the same place where our first date ended would be the beginning of us spending forever together. Olumide met Wunmi and I down stairs in the lobby, we took the elevator to the roof top and as we walked outside to the patio area I looked to my left to find our party. I didn’t see anyone at first but as I turned to my right I saw Osa standing alone in a heart made out of rose petals and for a moment I felt like everything went silent. Then it hit me what was about to happen, I was so overwhelmed and surprised that I put both of my hands over my head to cover my face and dropped to the floor. As happy tears flowed down my cheeks Osa walked over and pulled me up so that we could walk together into the center of the heart, I kept trying to compose myself and stop crying. Osa and I stood in the heart for a moment and everything was perfectly still, all I could see was him. At the corner of my eye I saw a flicker of light then I saw Wunmi’s sister walk behind Osa holding a Chinese lantern, then I saw my older brother’s wife holding another lantern. When I saw her I started crying again because then I knew that my brothers were there too. As they released the lanterns into the air our friends and family walked outside and quietly surrounded us. At this point I was still in awe and taking it all in. As Osa held both of my hands he talked about our journey together and told me how he was ready to take this important step in his life with me he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife … I said Yes!”

On their traditional engagement, family and friends were all smiles as the couple dressed in red and blue, embroidered aso-oke with delicate designs of flowers and patterns.
Mathilda looked every bit Osa’s princess in her Allure Bridals open back ballgown intricately created with French lace and English tulle, adorned with pearls on the sleeves, Swarovski crystals along the mid section and ivory buttons outlining the train. She held the most gorgeous bouquet – all white hydrangeas adorned with gold flecks. Osa was every bit her prince in a grey Hugo Boss Suit , adorned with a Teal Blue pocket square and Custom handmade black bowtie with gold tips, with fun red socks. For their outfit change, the bride wore a gold and cream custom made Pages Couture lace dress by Designer Ophelia Yankson with a traditional touch – gold and chocolate brown gele (headwrap). Mathilda designed the dress and Ophelia brought her vision to light. Osa wore a matching fila (cap) and outfit made from the same lace.
The bride and guests were reduced to happy tears as the couple said their holy vows, with wonderful applause and laughter when they tied the knot.
The couple had so many cute personal touches from getting ready to reception – like the bridesmaids t-shirts with years of how long they’ve known the bride. Elegant touches graced every detail – from the four tier almond butter cream pound cake that was decorated by hand with gold handmade cascading flowers to the bride’s 1950’s pinup style with swept up hair incorporating pin curls & gorgeous hair jewelry.
Their smiles all through will make your heart melt!
BN Weddings wishes the beautiful couple the most joyful life together.
