Senegal came to play at the just concluded GTBank Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2014 as designer Sophie Nzinga Sy of Sophie Zinga showcased her Spring/Summer 2014 collection for the Nigerian audience.

Titled “Abyssiania” the collection was inspired by an old age Ethiopian empire and features Ethipoia’s orthodox church which is interpreted as symbols and geometrical shapes unto structured cocktail dresses and jumpsuits.

Known for soft colour palettes, the brand went for powder blues, baby pinks, whites and oranges used through out the collection  with embroidered crosses and crystal embellishments while giving off a minimalist appeal with simple silhouettes. Fabrics used include a double face satin, beaded silk French chiffon, Alencon lace, silk organza, and ‘bazin’.

With hints of the 60s with shift dresses and powder blue jumpsuits, the sharp clean lines give off a modern take on the feminine pieces and has definitely got our vote.

I’ve been following her work for a while now. She totally gets minimalism! I was at the show and the pics don’t even come near of showing the greatness and detail on this collection. Everyone gasped at the wedding gown!! Bravo to her.

Hi Naomi…what would you define boring as…….Minimalism, soft hues, clean cuts, weararble pieces. The beauty of design is in the interpretation.Hence, you opinion may be “boring’,I think this collection is everything but ‘boring’

I was at the show. Some of the looks did not perfectly fit the models I have to agree but I loved her attention to detail for example on some of the organza frocks and I thought the collection was beautiful and loved the soft color palette. Not everyone necessarily wants in your face designs.
