On Monday 22nd June 2015, Tiffany Amber Nigeria in partnership with Diamond Woman, held a pitch session at The Wheatbaker, Ikoyi, Lagos to kick start the Women of Vision Mentorship Programme.

The pitch session was an avenue to select mentees who will be mentored by the 2014 Tiffany Amber Women of Vision. Over 700 entries were received, and out of those, 60 applicants were selected to attend the session.

The shortlisted applicants faced a formidable panel consisting of Folake Coker (CEO Tiffany Amber Nigeria), Ayona Trimnell (Divisional Head, Corporate Communications Diamond Bank), Aishah Ahmad (Head of Retail Banking, Diamond Bank), Osayi Alile (Chairperson, WIMBIZ), Nkiru Adekoya (Business Partner & Board Member, Tiffany Amber Nigeria), Omoyemi Akerele (Founder & Creative Director, Style House Files, Tiffany Amber Woman of Vision 2014) & Ifeoluwa Otedola (DJ Cuppy, Tiffany Amber Woman of Vision 2014).

The selection process was challenging for the panelists due to the high quality of applicants present. They ended up choosing two additional mentees, making a total of 17.

Commenting on the Women of Vision Mentorship Programme (tagged #WOVMP), Folake Coker said, “the importance of mentorship cannot be overemphasized; it is key to the growth of an individual. If only I had an older me, mentor the younger me in the early years of being an entrepreneur, I would have definitely made less mistakes”.

About the Women of Vision Mentorship Programme
In partnership with Diamond Woman, the mentorship program will run for 6 months and is aimed at fostering a platform that enables the younger generation of African women to meet highly accomplished women who have a desire to nurture the ‘girl child’ to be extraordinary.

Using this platform, the young women will gain direction, development and growth as it concerns their careers or various journeys to success. The mentees have the opportunity to gain invaluable learning and/or working experience from our Women of Vision.

The mentors are given the chance to inspire a younger generation with their well-earned efforts being celebrated at the next Women of Vision event.

What are the Mentees Gaining from the Experience?

  • A lifetime opportunity to gain direction, development and growth as it concerns their careers & various journeys to success.
  • Each mentee will be assisted with work placements, training courses and capacity development.

What’s that got to do with my comment? Whether or not women have always supported each other, aren’t I allowed to recognise and love it when I see it?

Tunmi, Women haven’t always supported one another. That is undeniably incorrect. And you know.
Great job, Folake Coker! Well done. May God bless the works of your hands in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

My goodness some of you are just as closed-minded ad mocheddah. Even on this same blog, women have been supportive of one another. The existence of this blog and many others, the many Aunt Bella posts, the entire BBOG campaign (which is still ongoing), the several volunteer/NGO aimed at the “girl-child’s education, remember the girl who poisoned her pedophile husband and his friends, it was women supporting other women that brought attention to it. And some men helped as well.

So when I say women have always supported each other, I truly mean that. The meanness you may see among some women is not exclusive to one gender, and it is unfair to state that women never support one another.

Tunmi, you rephrased someone else’s comment, as that was never said.
