SS1 Students – The 2016 Yale Young African Scholars application is Open | Deadline – 31st March 2016

yyas4The Yale Young African Scholars Program (YYAS) is a high-intensity academic and leadership program designed for African secondary school students who have the talent, drive, energy, and ideas to make meaningful impacts as young leaders, even before they begin their university studies.

YYAS brings together students from across Africa in this seven-day, residential program and helps prepare them for the demanding application process of attending university in the United States. YYAS is an official program of Yale University.

In order to be eligible for the 2016 Yale Young African Scholars Program, you must be a citizen of an African country and currently attend school on the African continent. YYAS accepts applications from current or rising high school juniors (US grade 11), or the international equivalent. Students will have 1.5 – 2 years left before completing high school, depending on academic calendar (see some specific country examples below). YYAS does not accept applications from current seniors (US grade 12), secondary school graduates, or college/university undergraduate students.

Nigeria
Students who have completed one year of Senior Secondary School (SSS1) and have two years remaining (rising 11th grade equivalent) are eligible to attend YYAS. The YYAS application will be released in September of their SSS1 year and due in March of their SSS1 year. Following YYAS, they will enter SSS2.

Kenya
Form 3 students (11th grade equivalent) are eligible to attend YYAS. The YYAS application will be released in September of their Form 2 year and due in March of their Form 3 year.

Ghana
Students who have completed one year of Senior Secondary School (SSS1) and have two years remaining (rising 11th grade equivalent) are eligible to attend YYAS. The YYAS application will be due in March of your SSS1 year.

Summer 2016 sessions will be held in three locations
Rwanda: 29 July – 4 August 2016
Ghana: 9 – 15 August 2016
Zimbabwe: 20 – 26 August 2016

Selected applicants will attend in 1 of the 3 locations.

There is no cost to students to participate in the Yale Young African Scholars Program.
