The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has called musician Innocent Idibia (aka 2Baba) and the Enough is Enough Nigeria  group to shelve their planned protests against government at all levels, in the interest of peace and public order.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday night, the police said they were in possession of ‘credible intelligence’ that some other groups are planning a counter protest or marches between February 5th and February 6th, and the 2Baba group had scheduled their protests for February 6th.

“If these various planned protests/ demonstrations are held as scheduled, that there may be breakdown of law and order, with attendant loss of lives and property,” the police said in the statement signed by the force spokesperson, CSP Jimoh Moshood.

The police said they were prepared “to employ every possible legal means for the maintenance of law and order; and for the protection of lives and property”.

“Consequently, members of the public, parents and guardians, religious/opinion leaders and other interest groups are strongly advised to prevail on their children and wards, followers and adherents not to allow themselves to be used by any group to cause disturbance of public peace and break down of law and order,” the statement added.

See the full statement below:

The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to publications in the media on the planned protests slated for 5th and 6th February, 2017 in Lagos and other States by different groups, one to be led by the popular musician INNOCENT IDIBIA aka (2Baba) and other opposing groups.

Nigeria Police Force is deeply concerned with the security implications with regard to the planned protest/demonstrations, and as the lead security Agency in the country, is fully aware and recognizes the constitutional rights of every citizen (including 2baba) and his group) to assemble and move freely in any part of the country.

In this regard, the Force is also cognizant of its constitutional responsibilities of taking any proactive/ preventive security measures:-

* In the interest of public safety, public order, public morality or public health.
* For the purposes of protecting lives and property, as well as the constitutional rights and freedom of other citizens.

The Nigeria Police Force is currently in possession of credible intelligence reports that other interest groups are equally planning to hold a counter protest/marches on the same days at the same places/cities as the Tu Face Group. If these various planned protests/ demonstrations are held as scheduled, that there may be breakdown of law and order, with attendant loss of lives and property.

To this end, the Nigeria Police Force deems it imperative to issue this press release:-

* That Innocent Idibia (a.k.a 2Baba) and his group are hereby advised strongly to shelve their planned peaceful protest/demonstration in the interest of peace and security.
* That the other opposing groups are equally advised strongly to shelve its planned counter protest/demonstration in the interest of peace and security.
* That the Nigeria Police Force is prepared to employ every possible legal means for the maintenance of law and order; and for the protection of lives and property.

Consequently, members of the public, parents and guardians, religious/opinion leaders and other interest groups are strongly advised to prevail on their children and wards, followers and adherents not to allow themselves to be used by any group to cause disturbance of public peace and break down of law and order.

“strongly advise” is just polite-speak for “don’t you dare!”

Don’t make the mistake and assume this will be another ‘Occupy Ojota.’ Buhari is not Jonathan who was doing ‘siddon-look’ while his enemies were openly preaching his downfall.
    Two things will happen:

Police/Army will descend on the protesters and cripple the ones they can catch

    OR

(more likely) The Lagos Mafia will hire agberos to make the protest ‘unpeaceful’. Then police will come to spray anything that breathes with teargas and then say ‘I-TOLD-YOU-SO’

Mumu man; we are now in a military era abi. Fuel subsidy protest never had any issue. You can gather intelligence on mere protest but go on awol when it concerns fulani herdsmen and boko haram. God will visit you with his full wrath; useless men that use their position of authority to impoverish the masses.
You will not be IGP forever; maybe you are buying from a different market so you dont feel the pains most families are passing through.

APC should start waving good bye to all their majority seats in government come 2019!!! Unless people have temporary brain lapse or allow stomach infrastructure runs rule their brains, all the PDP politicians that jumped ship, should begin preparing to jump either to a new party or back to PDP.

    I can almost guarantee protests will be peaceful and orderly in Lagos because;
    1. Lagos has handled peaceful protests in the past; the ojota march was quite orderly and it went on for days
    2. Buhari has pissed off jagaban( commander-in-chief of agberos/omonile/area boys in lagos) I guess he will tell his henchmen to stand down
    3. It is for a valid and reasonable cause…all and sundry are affected…nobody has plans to be unruly…we just want our questions answered

NPF should ensure law and order is maintained rather than hammering on cancellation… The people have the right to hold their leaders accountable

The Nigeria police is very funny! If you have intelligence report that another group is planning a counter protest, then why don’t you stop them and ask the organisers to reschedule their counter protest on another date? Or do protest just hold on organisers wish? Aren’t there conditions to be meant before protest of this nature is allowed to hold in a nation? Isn’t the police suppose to be with the protesters all through the protest protecting them? The only thing i can understand here is that the Nigeria police is just a stupid as the president. They all don’t just know what they are doing. And is such a big Shame

I support you; me and my friends weren’t planning on going for the protest. This singular rubbish from the IGP has garnered more support for the protest. Old men that have lost touch with reality; they keep telling us when we were kids that we are the leaders of tomorrow . i grew up still seeing same faces; our mumu don do…

What baffles me is that it is this same police rank and file that suffers most in the country. Many of the can’t even feed their family not to talk of send their kids to school. Salary budgeted to personnel is slashed and a mere token of 30-40k (which I only spend on fuel in a month …. One of the reasons to protest) is paid to them monthly. What can 30-40k do to a family in this buhari times?

Na dem go dey beg for 20 naira 500naira on the road. Isn’t it you people that is supposed to ensure the protest holds?

Folks are u sure we won’t change our prayer point? As some people have travelled to London (whether for treatment, rest, vacation or whatever) , make them just die there and never return. Pharaoh was stronger than this, he perished last last. Even jammeh of Gambia left, despite his string headedness. Abacha self bowed to the sovereign king.

God of yesterday, today and tomorrow, you did it in the past, oya repeat your work again. How many Amen’s can I get? I take the lead…..

    1. Amen!
    2.
    3.
    4.
    5……

The Nigeria Police Force needs remember Nigeria is a Democracy. This is what happens in a Democracy. Citizens demonstrate against their elected government to show their government they were not in support of the direction the Country is going. So deal with it. Hunger, Homelessness and Unemployment just to mention a few are the order of the day in cruurnt day Nigeria and you Morons don’t see the need for a peaceful protest against the government?. Members of the Nigeria Police force should be ashamed of themselves. Nigeria Police needs to be on the right side of History. ( The People’s side.) No amount of lies coming from Nigeria Police will stop this peaceful Protest as scheduled. A word is enough for the wise. I ‘ m just saying.
