92-year old Dr Melissa Freeman has been practicing medicine for over 60 years and she’s sharing her inspiring story about how she became a doctor and her secret to long life.
Freeman, an internal medicine specialist who has a private practice helping people addicted to opioids told Good Morning America that her grandfather was born a slave, but moved to New York in the late 1800s.
Her grandfather didn’t get an education but he made sure his children and grandchildren did. She was recently honoured by Howard Medical College, her alma mater.
Freeman still uses the subway to move around as she also works at a clinic.
On her secret to longevity and vitality, she said:
You do what you have to do. You have to move on. As long as God gives me life and strength, I’ll have to keep doing it. And he’s been very merciful to me.
