Word has been going around that Akon has signed 2Face Idibia, P-Square and Wizkid to his Konvict Muzik label for a worldwide deal. Akon even stated it in an interview with Denrele on Channel O a few weeks ago.
On April 11, Akon kept our hearts in our necks when he said, via his Twitter account, @akon:
“and I will be making a special announcement tomorrow… Nigeria STAY TUNED!!!”
Apparently, the deal wasn’t quite official yet until yesterday, Thursday, April 12 when Akon tweeted:
“It’s OFFICIAL!!!!!!! KONVICT/EME is now the official label for WIZKID worldwide. WOW!!!! Hope u ready!”
So, since the official paperwork’s been signed, big things are happening for the Superstar, Wizkid. But, it doesn’t stop there. The paperwork signed isn’t just a worldwide deal with Akon‘s Konvict Muzik, it is a Joint venture-partnership between EME and Konvict. This was what Banky W, the chairman of EME, had to say:
“Press conferences will still be held in Nigeria and the US in the near future. EME will now act as Konvict’s official rep in Africa and will run the African arm of the label’s operations. This includes standard offices, management, studios, production, A&R and provision of more artistes to launch under this partnership.
“Wiz is the first act to be launched under this agreement, but provision has been made for EME and will continue to build acts that achieve enough buzz to also launch on the same platforms”
The label is currently putting finishing touches to a much anticipated EME album “Empire State Of Mind” as well as a major tour of the US and UK.
“Wow!” – That’s really all I can say right now. Big things are really happening in the industry.
