Presenting the Maki Oh Fall 2014 Ready-to-Wear Collection Lookbook

It has been a nail biting wait for the announcements of the 10 LVMH Prize competition finalists for which Nigerian designers Adebayo Oke-Lawal of Orange Culture and Amaka Osakwe of Maki Oh competed. But fingers crossed and prayers said {if you missed the feature click here}.

While we wait, let’s cool off with the Ready-to-Wear collection by one of the designer hopefuls, Maki Oh.

With its new collection, the label is telling yet another story coupled with the odd, quirky and anti-bandwagon essentials that make the Maki Oh brand. With this one, Amaka explains the collection was birthed from her imagining a woman at her mirror, reciting the lyrics “Tell me I’m the only one, even if you choke“. The collections’ layout and story goes on to ask if the woman who stares at herself in the mirror is mad or not, the concept of self-love and anti-love and other states that fluctuate based on perception.

The collection is filled with soft silk blouses, tailored dresses, aso-oke materials with lurex thread applied in variants and tie & dyed fabrics & patterns.

We love the African vibe and feel every collection she brings is filled with – like the letter print of Yoruba words on the wrap skirt, she always adds an artistic look to the pieces that are real, raw and rich in culture.
