Congratulatory message by Atiku Abubakar, GCON, former Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the election of president-elect, His Excellency, General Muhammadu Buhari.

My hearty congratulations to His Excellency, General Muhammadu Buhari, for being elected the next president of our beloved county, Nigeria. You have led our party, the All Progressives Congress to an unprecedented victory within two years of it’s official formation, and in so doing, written the most important chapter of our democracy.

The great Nnamdi Azikiwe once wrote that “history will continue to vindicate the just”. Your victory in the polls, with votes from across the length and breadth of our country, bears witness to the acceptance of not just our party, the APC, but also your ideology of justice, fair play and zero tolerance for corruption as the bedrock for national rebirth.

At this historic moment, it is most important to say a hearty thank you to every Nigerian who voted for the APC. Your votes have not just elected the first opposition party into federal power, but has also set a precedent which will have positive implications for democracy across Africa.

Dear GMB, the journey has just begun. Millions of Nigerians have put their trust in you, because they were not satisfied with the status quo. You represent the hope of a new generation of Nigerians, and you cannot afford to fail them. Our party has made a promise of change to our young people, to secure and rebuild our country, create jobs and opportunity, and improve citizens’ welfare. We will stand behind you to ensure we keep those promises, just like we did during these elections.

Our country needs a new direction. We have voted for you, and our party won the election, but when you assume our highest office, you must become the president of not just the APC, but all of Nigeria, including the people who did not vote for you. We look up to you to heal the fractures of our country, and truly unite this country like never before.

To President Jonathan, I want to specially thank you for conducting a historic election. Your party may have lost the elections, but you have won the admiration of the world by not interfering with the wishes of Nigerians. History will be kind to you.

It is my sincere hope that we will all come together as one country, to build the Nigeria of our dreams.

God bless Nigeria.

Well constructed and insightful. Pretty much covers the basic. I am proud of President Jonathan, this election is his greatest achievement yet. Please our dear northern brothers should note that the wonderful people of the south south are not killing anybody for Jonathan’s lose…this is me fast forwarding to a time power leaves the north again. Congrats to the elected president Gen Buhari. The people have spoken!

Good piece except that Mr Atiku himself, Mr. Jonathan, Mr Obasanjo and Gen Buhari should all have been in jail in a functional democracy. Messr Atiku, Obasanjo and Jonathan for the monumental corruption during their respect regimes; and Mr Buhari for overthrowing a democratically elected government. After the restoration of democracy in many South American countries, most former military leaders (including those who granted themselves immunities from prosecution before handing over power) were arrested, tried and jail.

I refuse to participate in this euphoria of Buhari’s win. He owes Nigeria a time in jail… along with the super-foolish man, Goodluck Jonathan. Every sensible Nigerian should please appeal to Col Abubakar Umar to contest the next presidential election. He is the correct man for the job.

Nigeria of our dreams indeed. With all you dirty old men glued to the helms of power and affairs, since I was born. Jonathan is the real hero here. Trust Nigerians , by the time Buhari starts to dish it out then a different tune will be heard. Also, lets not be suprised if the kidnapped girls are suddenly found or released now that the whole saga has ended. Bella please post my comment.

And if the girls are found, we will celebrate and we will commend whichever government has succeeded in setting them free and returning them to their families who are currently in anguish over their loss while the nation celebrates.
If President Jonathan achieves this before May 29, we will also celebrate his government.

I just have a song to sing which we sang some forty years ago in primary school and it goes thus. “some people wanted to separate Nigeria, Jonathan says Nigeria must be one, thanks be to President Jonathan for keeping Nigeria one”.

Thank you sir for your well articulated message to our General, but Sir you are first on the list for probing or is it second? ok second I think, just after Tinubu. Your fraudulent collaborators are cons in American prisons and you are here roaming the streets of Nigeria as a big boy….Kai!!!!. Having the guts to run for primaries….sabo da Allah! GMB you must live up to your promises. We must sanitise Nigeria and because charity start from home …please our General begin with your boys…..

I’d like to say this in advance because I know the time will come when if we hear one negative thing, people will say “Ehen Nigerians deserve this for voting for Buhari” just like people who opposed GEJ in 2011 have been saying “Is it not you people who voted for GEJ?”
Despite the apparent prolific numbers of winches and wizards in Nigeria, many of us are not clairvoyant. We cannot read the minds of these people and we cannot see the future. We can only watch, learn, and make informed decisions based on our needs and what we know. Majority (not all) of Nigerians voted for Jonathan years ago because they wanted change. We did not see the results we wanted, and in fact things may have gotten worse, so this time majority of Nigerians voted for the opposition because to them, any opposition to the status quo was welcome. The party you support may not always win, but the majority speaks and when that happens please forget your personal, tribal and religious grudges and just BE A NIGERIAN. Hold the leader accountable for sure, but be positive now and hope for their success as a president because a Nigerian president who is a success means we have a Nigeria that is a success. If you are so bitter that you’d rather have the president fail just to prove a point, please go and apply for a passport to another country because you are not needed, but please note that if this country doesn’t work it will be hard for you to get even visa, not to talk of passport. In other words, you may be better off building a spaceship and moving to Mars…if Martians will take you.
Again I do not know the future and frankly, I have been skeptical about Buhari from the beginning, but based on our history I am glad that I saw a day in Nigeria where the voices of frustration were heard and acknowledged, that people are taking back their rights, and that the incumbent graciously conceded defeat. It may sound cheesy but it really gives me hope for tomorrow and hope for us.
    God bless Nigeria.
