Man Arrested in Handcuffs

Former President Abdussalam Abubakar has bailed out 30 prison inmates who were jailed for minor offences in Kano.

Speaking shortly after the release of the inmates from Goron Dutse prison on Monday, the Spokesperson of the former President, Isma’il Idris, urged them to be law abiding.

He warned them against acts that would bring them back to jail, adding that they should find some trades to do to avoid being jobless.

Idris noted that the fine settlement on Abdussalam’s side was one of his philanthropic activities, especially during the Ramadan period.

Some of the released inmates expressed satisfaction with the gesture.

Daniel Saleh, one of the released inmates, said he was sent to prison because he couldn’t settle a fine of N5,000 and he was happy to be bailed out.

Another freed inmate, Godpower Ugoyebi, said he was involved in a fight with a friend and arrested by the police and arraigned before a court.

He said he was given a fine option but couldn’t pay and that made him stay in jail over the past months.
