Auto Focus with Yemi Shobowale: Behold The All-New Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The New Year started on an important note for Mercedes-Benz with the launch of the new –generation E-Class. Launched on January 11, the Tenth-generation mid-level luxury saloon delivers stylish highlights with its distinct, emotive design and high-grade interior.

The new E-Class debuts technical innovations in comfort, safe driving and new heights in driver assistance amongst other. It has high levels of comfort and technology packed into it with gadgets like ‘Active Lane-change Assistant which allows the driver to steer into the selected lane as if by magic, this singlehandedly makes the E-Class the most intelligent saloon in its business class.’

Even though it has a huge resemblance with the new C-Class and S-Class, its striking sporty and sophisticated attributes are appealing adding to its ‘wow’ factor. It has grown by 65 millimetres in comparison to the outgoing model with an elongated hood and a roof flowing into a tail end with curves that accentuates its sportiness.

It’s powered by different engines, a PLUG-IN HYBRID- with four-cylinder petrol engine in conjunction with a powerful electric motor allows around 30 kilometres  of mission-free driving, resulting in an output of 210 kW (286 hp) with a system torque of 550 Nm. An E 400 4MATIC with a six-cylinder petrol engine has an output of 245 kW (333 hp) with a maximum torque of 480 Nm. While the E 220 d with an all-new four-cylinder diesel will be available at launch. All engines are equipped with the new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse Limousine (W 213) 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-ClThe interior is to die for, with next-generation high-resolution displays, it features two displays which visually ‘conflate into a wide-screen cockpit that seems to be hovering in thin air’. The dashboard looks very futuristic and minimalist, definitely breath-taking! Information on the Mercedes-Benz website says the driver can choose between three different styles to select:  “Classic”, “Sport” and “Progressive” for their preferred design for the wide-screen instrument cluster.

The new E-Class has touch-sensitive control buttons (‘Touch Controls’) on the steering wheel in addition. Similar to a smartphone interface, ‘they respond precisely to horizontal and vertical swiping movements, allowing the driver to control the entire infotainment system using finger swipes without having to take their hands off the steering wheel’. The new E-Class has high-quality materials like Open-pore woods, wood in a yachting look with flowing lines as a contemporary interpretation of inlaid wood and a novel metal fabric are adopted.

In terms of technology, it’s not lagging behind, state-of-the-art features include AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension which gives an all-round self-levelling for excellent ride comfort when the car is loaded.

The new E-Class boasts Driver assistance systems such as DRIVE PILOT, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Evasive Steering Assist, Advanced assistance systems, Remote Parking pilot, Car-to-X communication, RE-SAFE® impulse side, PRE-SAFE® Sound, High-resolution MULTIBEAM LED headlamps, each with 84 individually controlled high-performance LEDs are available on the E-class

A feature known as Digital vehicle Key allows drive authorisation system that uses Near Field Communication technology, this permits the allows the driver’s smartphone to be used as a vehicle.

No price indication has been given yet, we will also be seeing it at the Detroit Motor Show which already began.
