Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has urged nomads to desist from grazing their livestock at night in order to avoid farm land encroachment as farmers begin planting.

The MACBAN’s Secretary in the state, Adamu Birniwa, gave the advice on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

Birniwa said that the warning has become necessary in view of the current security challenges facing the country.

He added that it had become necessary to warn the nomads against grazing at night because they had been accused of committing all sorts of crime during the night.

The scribe also urged parents to desist from sending their under-aged children out to graze at night.

He stated that grazing at night can make young nomads turn wild and susceptible to all sorts of vices in the society.

According to him, under-aged children could commit any kind of crime due to ignorance of the law of the land.

Birniwa, therefore, urged the parents to rather, send their children to school at an early age to help them secure a brighter future.

He further said that the association usually receives complaints at the beginning and end of cropping season annually.

Birniwa also urged farmers in the state to avoid encroaching identified grazing reserves and cattle routes.

He noted that some farmers in state were in the habit of encroaching into cattle routes and grazing reserves close to their farmers.

The scribe pointed out that said this practice by farmers usually caused conflict between farmers and herdsmen in the state.

According to him, the state government through its Farmers/Herdsmen Conflict Resolution Board should ensure peaceful coexistence between the two parties.

Birniwa said that the association is currently sensitising herdsmen coming from neighbouring countries through the international cattle routes to graze their cattle in the state.

He listed the routes to include: Niger Republic-Jigawa-Bauchi-Gombe-Taraba-Cameroon.

Others are Chad-Borno-Yobe-Jigawa-Niger Republic-Kano-Kaduna-Niger.

The scribe listed others to include, Kaduna-Kwara-Benin-Lagos-Niger-Kogi-Enugu-Nassarawa-Platue-Bauchi-Jigawa-Niger Republic.
