Some youths in Bauchi on Tuesday demonstrated in support of the new pump price of N145 per litre.

The youths, numbering about 700, visited the palace of the Emir of Bauchi, Government House and the NUJ Press Centre.

Addressing newsmen at the Press Centre, spokesperson of the group, Dr. Danjuma Dabo, said they were in support of the actions of President Muhammadu Buhari because his patriotism and selflessness were never in doubt.

He said it was clear that the “so-called subsidy had never been of benefit to the common man”.

Dabo said Nigerians have had to buy at the cost of over N300 per litre in the past, as such deregulation of the downstream sector was the only solution.

Also speaking, Ali Abubakar and Nasiru Umar said that considering the antecedents of President Buhari as an honest and selfless person, Nigerians were willing to support all measures taken by him to sanitise the system.

“Even if he increases the pump price to N1000 per litre, we are willing to support him because he can be trusted as a person that does things with good intention,” said Abubakar.

While at the palace of the Emir of Bauchi, a member of the Emirate Council, Bala Abubakar, thanked them for ensuring that the demonstration was peaceful.

He urged Nigerians to support policies aimed at enhancing the living condition of the common man.
At the Government House, the Commissioner in charge of State Planning Commission, Alhaji Shehu Ningi, thanked the youths for their display of maturity.

He urged the NLC and TUC to shelve their planned strike in the best interest of the country.
