Development: Sultan Urges Nigerians to Embrace Peace, Unity

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Nigerians to embrace peace and unity for even development of the country.

Abubakar made the call on Saturday in Sokoto at the launching of two books on the sighting of the month of Ramadan authored by a Sokoto-based Islamic cleric, Malam Bashir Sani.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the books were titled: “Sabanin ganin Wata: Ina mafita?”and ”Moon sighting VS Moon fighting and quest for Unity.”

The monarch, who was represented by Professor Sambo Junaidu, said:

It is only by embracing peace and unity in the society that we can achieve the desired needs and development of our country.

It is very disappointing as the people are facing so many challenges which need to be addressed which include many forms of violence thereby causing the loss of so many lives and property as well as putting the country in a difficult situation,to achieve selfish reasons.

He commended the author, saying that the books came at the right time because of the need to address the problems bedeviling the sighting of the month of Ramadan.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who was represented by his Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mani Maishinko, also called on Muslims to use the books wisely. “This is in order to ensure peace and unity among the entire society and also support the government to generate more income when peace reigns in the country,” he said.

He promised that the current administration in the state would continue to support Scholars in their efforts to publish books.

Speaking earlier, Senator Aliyu Wamakko (APC- Sokoto North), called on people to support government and traditional leaders in all possible ways.

Responding, Sani said that the aim of the two publications was to facilitate peace and unity among Muslim on the sighting of Islamic Moon.
