"The crisis in Benue is not a religious or ethnic problem but an economic one" - Sultan of Sokoto - BellaNaija

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III

The Sultan of Sokoto Sa’ad Abubakar has asked that Nigerians not write off the Fulani people because of Fulani herdsmen, Punch reports.

He said this while speaking on the theme of “Living Together, Achieving Together,” at the 1st General Assembly of Inter-faith Dialogue forum.

The Sultan, who is the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, admitted that he is indeed the patron of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeder Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

The group however has no control over the herdsmen in the bush, he said, adding that the crisis in Benue is not religious or ethnic, but an economic one between farmers and herders. He said:

We pray not to get to the level of Afghanistan where everybody is bearing arms, but you can’t label Miyetti Allah as a terrorist organisation. It has never sat down to discuss how to kill innocent people and take over their land. The Fulani (herdsmen) don’t care about electricity, roads or the government because they live in the bush.

We refuse to accept that all Fulani are bad. The crisis in Benue is not a religious or ethnic problem but an economic one. It is a fight between herdsmen and farmers and unless the government takes it seriously, it may get out of hand.

He charged security agencies in the nation to put an end to the killings whichever way they can.

The killings must be stopped, the Sultan said, and the issues must not be looked at through the prism of religion and ethnicity. He said:

The killings must be stopped, they have gone too far. This is not the time to apportion blames, but to seek solutions. What are the security agencies doing and when will these killings stop? We must challenge the leaders with one voice, the issues must not be looked at with the prisms of religion or ethnicity.

So sultan is saying as a patron, I do not care about the economic survival of the miyatti? or his he hiding something. The issue is not a new one and concerns the irregular movement of herders looking for betta grass for their cows and many times in one mans land or farm. If he preferred peace, he could have been negotiating about land usage for the herders. Our so called leaders are clueless and useless. this is an issue that has been affecting many southern states and the patrons sit down hoping for the herdmens to conquer the south? The fulani are smart and nation builders but they do not have any nation to build in the south. they should learn to integrate with southern culture or negotiate closed ranches. enough of this beating around the bush. They are been labelled a terrorist organization because the way of herding is not and has not been prevalent in Southern Nigeria culture or way of life. It does not exist, that is why they are being labelled terrorist organization.

It’s disgusting, appalling that none of these leaders have strongly condemned the murder, killing of lives except justify, come out to cry about Buhari’s emotion and beat around the bush.
Economic matters has led to the killing, torture of another group because one feels threatened and have weapons. It’s unacceptable and unethical. Hitler felt threatened by Jews and it all started from there. Buhari, prove by action and stop all this foolishness. Why is there a government if you can’t settle, find solution to a crisis.
Let there not be another excuse but steps and action to better this situation. It doesn’t matter if these Fulani herdsmen are aliens and invincible.

They will never condemn the killings because it is done by their tribesmen!
    Dear Sultan,
1.All the security chiefs appointed by Buhari are your tribesmen. Direct your questions to them.
2.Who gave the Fulani hersdmen AK 47 guns ?
    3. Why do your Fulani herdsmen graze in the farms of their host communities? Are their farms not of economic importance? Why are they not grazing in the farms of your tribesmen in your own communities?’
    4. Why are you not calling for the arrest of these murderous Fulani herdmen who are not like the good Fulanis?
    5. Were IPOB Youths armed with deadly weapons and AK 47 before the Commander In-Chief deployed the military to the South-East with a show of force in Operation Python Dance?

    The HYPOCRISY stinks !

Sultan of sokoto has definitely lost his bloody mind. For him to have said that the cause of the killings in Benue is largely due to economic reasons But not due to any religious or ethnicity reasons. The most important question I want to ask the bloody sultan. Is the life of a cow more important than the life of a human being? Secondly, the price of a cow in Nigeria is =N= 180,000. How much does the crazy sultan think the price of a human life is? Thirdly, sultan Chicken or the egg which one comes first? Farmers in Benue state have existed at that location before the murderous bunch Fulani herdsmen choose to forcefully eject the original land owners from their land through the use of guns and mass killings. Sultan think before you speak. I believe you are not thinking rationally before saying the dandiest things attributed to you. This must be because your turban was tightly wounded around your head making it practically impossible for blood to flow to your brain. I will suggest you ask those helping you to wrap your turban not to wound it too tightly like that any more. so that blood can flow easily to your bloody brain. This will enable you to think more reasonably. Now that we all know you’re the grand patron of the myeti Allah cattle association, tell them Nigeria has a law. which they must obey and respect at all times or else……. will face the wrought of the law accordingly. To those within this Buhari government aiding and abating the Fulani herdsmen. Nigeria belongs to all of us. Nigeria is greater than all of you. For us to grow together and to achieve together you must desist from your criminality. A word is enough for the wise. I’m just saying.

Let’s not accept this message, it’s full of deceit. Herdsmen kill the indigents when colonies are not given,YOU can imagine what will happen when they live with the indigenous people. One day there will be an extinction of the indigents. Then the preachers will preach again. Let Sambias Forest BE given to them. They are not Hausas, who are kind, loving and accommodating to their fellow Nigerians.
