AfroChic in the City: Jewel by Lisa Spring/Summer 2010 @ ARISE Promise

Oh Lisa! Jewel by Lisa is the modern chic Nigerian girl’s fairytale. There is just something about JBL pieces that we can infinitely relate to. Well, ladies, after the collection which Jewel by Lisa showed at the ARISE Promise of Africa Collective Show at New York Fashion Week, we are going to have to start sharing ‘our’ Lisa with the world. The collection was pitch-perfect, filled with dazzling yet refreshingly wearable pieces of African origin yet inspired by the adventurous, sensual and stylish aura of the New York Woman. With so many sparkly pieces, it was hard to choose a favourite so we went in the opposite direction, a basic yet oh-so-fab bang-on trend jumpsuit. Hello world, Jewel by Lisa is here to stay!

Press Points – What the Press Had to say about Jewel by Lisa @ ARISE Promise
“The first presentation, Jewel by Lisa, was the standout collection of the evening. Her bold color palette, which includes a rich mustard, blood red and an ocean blue, are easy on the eye and her charming paisleys and mosaic prints were the perfect foil for the intricate beadwork on her dresses” – The New York Post
“The boho chic collection was distinguished by a mix African fabrics and traditional textiles, and exquisite hand-embellished beads, sequins, and Swarovski crystals” – Splendid City.com

I LOVE Jewel by Lisa. Imma start saving to buy her stuff
jewel by lisa!..one of my favorite collections so far!
keep up the good work!
the first dress works most for me!
lisa well i think your design will only sell in africa based on your fabrics, for you to come to new york fashion week it means you looking for an international market, i don’t see that on 5th ave or paris, well done anyway but you need to change the fabrics is too ankara,
New york , paris london is her place i think u shoul really look very well at the designs or do i smell envy and jealousy
are you kidding? if boxkitten can use ankara and have solange and co rocking it why can’t JBL?
Have you entered a department store or boutique and looked at the clothing lately? Everything is about prints and people are going gaga over “ethnic” or “ethnic inspired” prints/fabrics. So what exactly are you saying?
Dude, it is very clear you have lost touch with current fashion trends. Even Marc Jacobs’ Mark by Mark Spring 2010 collection has some African (or should I say “ethnic”) prints in it… That’s the new ‘it’. If an African designer can’t use African fabrics and expose it to the world, who will? You will see this in the NYC streets, you best believe that! Great, GREAT collection, I am IMPRESSED with Naija designers.
Sister from Cameroon, Kuka!
I don’t like any of her design……no pun intended
Where is her stuff being sold?
fabulous designs. lisa should send a sample to first lady of the u.s. michelle obama. she loves prints and frequently appears in them. your designs would add to her beauty.
Excellent notion, idea, suggestion.
I think you are wrong about this. There are many african-american women who love these designs but they are not available in this country. If you bring them, we will come!
Love most of them, very wearable but slightly pricey☺.
